Softball Set To Host Shorter In GSC Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball team will host Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University this weekend, playing the Hawks in a doubleheader set to begin on Friday at 3 p.m. before finishing out the series on Saturday with a single game beginning at noon.

About the Warhawks
AUM is 19-12 this season with a 10-11 mark in the GSC. The Warhawks are coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 9-1 victory in game one before exploding for a 16-0 win in game two. The Warhawks are also 9-6 at home this season.
 
Sophomore Jaycie Walker leads the team in batting average with a mark of .372 on the year. Walker also leads the team in slugging percentage (.709), doubles (13), home runs (4) and triples (2). Freshman Hannah Dailey and senior Amy Persinger are tied for the team lead in RBI with 16 apiece while sophomore Parker Pinholster leads the team in stolen bases with 23.
 
Chanel Newcomer leads a pitching staff that boasts three hurlers with an earned run average 2.89 or lower. Newcomer's 1.99 ERA leads the team as she's also tallied a team-high 67 strikeouts on the year with an overall record of 10-5.
 
The Warhawks are 6-4 lifetime against Shorter, with the last meeting coming on April 28, 2012, a 2-0 victory for AUM.
 
About the Hawks
SU is 15-16 on the year with a 10-10 mark in league play. The Hawks are coming off of a three-game sweep of #22 Alabama Huntsville last week, snapping a four-game conference losing skid in the process.
 
Five players are batting over .300 on the season, with Taylor Martin leading the way with a mark of .360. Martin is tied for the team lead in hits with Tiffany Holland, with both notching 31 on the year. Kaylee Combs leads the team in RBI with 22 and home runs with five.
 
Pitcher Payton Lippert leads the Hawks in strikeouts with 70 on the season. Lippert is 8-6 on the season with a 2.76 ERA.

The Warhawks will travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take on #14 West Florida in a GSC series set to begin on Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday's contest is set to begin at 1 p.m. as well.
