MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team will open up play against Gulf South Conference opponents this weekend, hosting Valdosta State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and West Georgia on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

About the Warhawks
In their last time out, the Warhawks suffered a 4-3 setback in overtime to the Bulldogs of Wingate University on Sept. 3rd. The Warhawks erased a two-goal deficit in the second half of the match, with goals from
Ruby Mendez and Julia Simões, before eventually falling to the Bulldogs in OT.
Despite an 0-2 start, AUM is currently averaging 3 goals per contest in 2018, a mark that ranks tied for second among GSC teams. The Warhawks rank third among GSC teams in both total points (23) and assists (7), while ranking fourth in the conference in shots on goal per match (8).
Junior forward
Ruby Mendez currently leads the Warhawks in points (8), Goals (3), shots taken (16) and shots on goal (9). Mendez netted a pair of goals in the Warhawk's loss to Clayton State on Sept. 3rd.
Mayson Jaindl, Simões and
Allison Singleterry have all also netted a goal for AUM in 2018.
Melissa Fernandez paces the squad with three assists on the year, a mark that ranks tied for first among GSC athletes.
In goal, both
Felicia Wester and
Dejon Fletcher have split keeper duties for AUM in 2018. Fletchers's eight saves on the season mark for the team high.
The Warhawks will look to avenge losses to both Valdosta State and West Georgia in their most recent meetings in 2017.
About Valdosta State
Valdosta State (2-2) fell 3-1 at Florida Tech in their most recent action. The Lady Blazers have posted a home record of 2-0, and road mark of 0-2 through four matches in 2018.
The 2017 season saw the Lady Blazers post a record of 10-6-3, after finishing 1-11-5 in 2016. Valdosta State capped of their 2017 season with an advancement in PKs over North Alabama in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament.
Junior Forward Ashley Lewis leads the Lady Blazers with three goals scored and six points accumulated, while sophomore midfielder Lexie Hall paces the squad with two assists.
Goalkeeper Caroline Embler (2-2) sits third in the conference with a 0.85 goals against average.
About West Georgia
West Georgia (0-2-2) dropped a 1-0 contest to Georgia College on Sept. 9th in their most recent matchup.
The Wolves head into this weekend's action having given up just three goals in four matches, for a GAA of 0.75 that ranks second in the GSC.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Donaldson currently paces the GSC in save percentage at 91.2 percent, while ranking second in the conference with a 0.68 goals against average.
The Wolves will take on Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala. On Friday, Sept. 14 before making the trek to Montgomery for their contest with the Warhawks on Sunday.
