Volleyball Heads To West Alabama And Mississippi College

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will continue its road trip to open the 2018 Gulf South Conference season this weekend when they travel to West Alabama and Mississippi College on Friday and Saturday, respectively, as the Warhawks will look to get back to their winning ways after having their eight-match win streak snapped against league foe the University of Montevallo this past Tuesday.

About the Warhawks
Prior to AUM's first set loss to UM on Tuesday evening the Warhawks had won 17 consecutive sets during their eight-match win streak, last falling in the second set to Limestone College on Sept. 1. The Orange & Black are now 8-3 overall with a 0-1 mark in GSC play. The Warhawks are also 3-0 at home, 1-2 on the road and 4-1 at neutral sites.
 
Junior outside hitter Sommer Rhea leads the team in kills with 97 and is second on the team in digs (91) and service aces (15). Senior middle blocker Brianna Garvin leads the team in attack percentage with a mark of .381 and blocks with 23 (11 solo), and is second on the team in kills (90).
 
Senior Carly Smart leads the team in assists from her setter position with 226 while leading the team in aces with 15. The Columbus, Ga., native recorded her first career triple double against UM on Tuesday, tallying 24 assists, 17 digs and 10 kills against the Falcons. Freshman Emily Ward leads the team in digs with 105.
 
AUM is 0-1 against UWA, falling 3-1 in a Nov. 10 matchup last season. Garvin tallied a career-high 17 kills in the match while Smart posted 40 assists. The Warhawks are also 0-1 against MC, falling to the Choctaws in AUM's first ever GSC match on Sept. 19 of last season. Sophomore Jaylyn Felder led the team in kills that night with nine.
 
About the Tigers
UWA is 7-3 on the season with a 2-0 record at home. The Tigers are also 4-1 in their last four matches and opened their conference season with a 3-0 victory over Mississippi College.
 
Madison Cooler leads the team in kills with 113 with teammate Taylor Donato nipping at her heels with 104. Setter Kassie Till directs the offense to the tune of 351 assists and is tied with Cooler for the team lead in service aces with 18. Jessica Akiona leads the team in digs with 111. As a team UWA has amassed 440 kills while opponents have notched 346 against them. The Tigers will host West Florida in their next match.
 
About the Choctaws
MC is 5-6 overall and 0-1 in GSC matches. This will be the first home match of the season for the Choctaws, who are 4-2 at neutral sites and 1-4 in road matches. They opened GSC play with a 3-0 setback to UWA on Tuesday.
 
Two Choctaws have over 100 kills on the year, with Kendall Platt leading the way with 138. Platt is also tied for third on the team in blocks with 14. Jamie Boros is second on the team in kills with 102 and is tied with Platt for third in blocks with 14 of her own. Setters Rylee Markham (182) and Lexie Laurendine (174) have combined for 356 assists in directing the MC offense, with Jill Brown leading the way in digs with 171.

The Warhawks will host a pair of GSC matches after playing UWA and MC this weekend. AUM welcomes Valdosta State on Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. before playing West Georgia the next day at 2 p.m. inside the AUM Gymnasium.
