CLINTON, Miss. – Playing in the third and final game of a three-game road swing the Auburn Montgomery volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon, falling 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 to the Choctaws in league play.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 8-5 on the season and 0-3 in the GSC.
• MC improves to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
• The Warhawks are now 0-2 lifetime against the Choctaws.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior outside hitter
Sommer Rhea led the Warhawks in kills with nine and digs with 12.
• Senior setter
Carly Smart led the team in assists with 21 and service aces with two. Smart also finished the day with 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set saw the Choctaws run out to a 9-4 lead before the Warhawks were able to battle back and tie the game at 14-14. MC would regain the lead but AUM would keep pace, pulling within a point at 19-18 on a
Brianna Garvin solo block. However, the Choctaws were able to rally for five straight points before Rhea was able to break serve at 24-19. MC then used a kill by Jamie Boros to take the first set, 25-19.
• MC would start the second set on a 10-3 run before the AUM offense was able to get on track for four straight points. The Choctaws pushed their lead to 16-9 but the Orange & Black answered with three straight points, capped off by a Smart service ace. The two teams would trade points back and forth with the Choctaws capitalizing on their early lead to take the second set 25-18.
• AUM took a 3-0 advantage in the third set only to have the home team tie the game up moments later. The highly contested frame saw 12 tie scores until the two teams drew even at 21 points apiece. Unfortunately the Choctaws would go on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• The match featured 21 tie scores and five lead changes.
• MC tallied 40 kills while AUM posted 27.
• The Warhawks tallied 53 digs to 47 for the Choctaws.
