Women’s Soccer Claims 1-0 GSC Victory at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team picked up their first Gulf South Conference victory of the 2018 season on Sunday afternoon, with their 1-0 shutout victory over Shorter.
 
Notes
- With the win, AUM improves to 1-5 overall, and 1-3 in GSC play.
- Sunday's win marks for the third-straight season in which the Warhawks have defeated Shorter.
 
Standout Performers
- Ruby Mendez netted the lone goal of the afternoon, while also taking a game-high 10 shots and six shots on goal.
- Fabiana Alborghetti took four shots on the afternoon, with three on goal. 
- Mayson Jaindl, Ariel Jones and Allison Singleterry all added a pair of shots and a shot on goal in the match
- In goal, Dejon Fletcher (1-2) was a perfect 2-2 on save opportunities on the day, en route to recording her first shutout of the 2018 season. 
 
How it Happened
- Defense prevailed in the first half, as neither team was able to crack the scoreboard.
- Mendez's eventual game-winner came in the unassisted variety in the 62nd minute. The goal marked for Mendez's team-leading sixth score of the season.
- The Warhawk defense would hold steady for the remainder of the contest to help secure the 1-0 win.

"I'm very proud of my ladies," Head Coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge said. "To be able to overcome Friday's adversity and pick up a crucial conference win on the road speaks a lot about their grit and their character."
 
Inside the Boxscore
- AUM outshot Shorter 23-7 on the afternoon. Of the Warhawk's 23 shots, 14 came on frame, with the Warhawks accounting for 10 of their shots on goal in the second period. 
-The Warhawks committed just five fouls on the day, and did not commit an offside infraction, while the Hawks were whistled for 10 fouls and committed five offside infractions.

- The Warhawks will return to action on Friday, Sept. 28th, when they host number-nine ranked West Florida in GSC action. Match time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
