Volleyball Heads To Albany State For Midweek Match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will play a midweek match against non-conference foe Albany State on Tuesday evening, hitting the road to take on the Golden Rams out of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

About the Warhawks
AUM is currently 8-7 overall with a 3-2 mark in road matches. The Warhawks opened the season 0-2 before reeling off eight straight wins, the longest win streak in program history. Since opening Gulf South Conference play the Orange & Black have dropped five in a row beginning with a 3-1 setback to the University of Montevallo.
 
The Warhawks hitting for a .177 average while holding opponents to .150 hitting. Junior outside hitter Sommer Rhea leads the team in kills with 138, while also leading the team in digs with 144. Senior setter Carly Smart leads the team in assists with 317 while also leading the team in service aces with 19. Rhea is second on the team in aces with 14.
 
Senior middle blocker Brianna Garvin leads the team in attack percentage with a mark of .365, while also leading the team in blocks with 27 (14 solo).  
 
About the Golden Rams
ASU is 0-8 on the season, having also fallen to GSC opponents Montevallo and Valdosta State. The Golden Rams dropped their conference opener to Fort Valley State 3-2 on the road. This will be the first home match of the season for ASU.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Jannai Cheeks leads the team in kills with 52 and is second on the team in digs with 68. Defensive specialist Jolesia McClenton leads the Golden Rams in digs with 72 on the year. Senior setter Ciara Chapman leads AUM in assists with 103, averaging 4.9 per set.
 
Up Next
The Warhawks will host Gulf South Conference foe Alabama Huntsville on Friday evening at 6 p.m. in the AUM Gymnasium. The Warhawks will then hit the road the next day, taking on league opponent West Florida on the campus of the Argonauts. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
