Volleyball Hosts UAH Friday, Travels To #15 UWF On Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will return to Gulf South Conference action this Friday and Saturday, welcoming league foe Alabama Huntsville on Friday evening before traveling to Pensacola, Fla., the following day to take on #15 West Florida.

About the Warhawks
AUM is currently 9-7 overall with a 0-5 mark in the GSC. The Warhawks opened the season 0-2 before reeling off eight straight wins, the longest win streak in program history. Since opening Gulf South Conference play the Orange & Black have dropped five league matches in a row beginning with a 3-1 setback to the University of Montevallo.
 
The Warhawks snapped their losing skid with a 3-0 victory over non-conference foe Albany State on Tuesday evening, improving to 9-2 against non-conference opponents. AUM also improved to 2-4 in road matches.
 
The Orange & Black are led offensively by junior outside hitter Sommer Rhea, who has tallied 145 kills on the season. Rhea also leads the team in digs with 150, and is second in service aces (14). Senior setter Carly Smart leads the team in aces with 27 and assists with 326. Her 326 assists is good enough for 10th amongst Gulf South setters.
 
This will be the second meeting of the season between UAH and AUM, who played a non-conference match on Aug. 24. The Chargers won the match, 3-0. AUM is now 0-3 against UAH and 0-2 against the Argonauts.
 
About the Chargers
UAH is currently 14-3 on the year overall with a 4-1 mark in league play. The Chargers are also 3-0 in road matches. They are 4-1 in their last five matches, and are coming off of a three-match home stand. The Chargers will play their next five matches on the road.
 
Junior middle Isabelle Barnes leads the high-powered Charger offense in kills with 136. Barnes is one of four players who boast over 100 kills this season, with Abby Brooks (115), Caroline Sanford (106) and Anna LeDuc (105) having topped the century mark.
 
Sophomore Sabrina Duncan is second in the GSC in assists with 534, directing the Charger offense to a .219 attack percentage as a team. Haley Hop leads the team in digs with 277.
 
About the Argonauts
UWF is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The Argonauts are 12-4 on the season with a 4-1 mark in the GSC. UWF is also 7-2 in home matches this season, falling to #5 Western Washington and #24 Wheeling Jesuit in five sets.
 
The Argonauts also boast four players who have over 100 kills on the season, with junior outside hitter Jordyn Poppen leading the way with 183. Poppen is also sixth in the GSC in kills. Nadine Williams (173), Makila York (131) and Makenzie Chrisman (119) have all reached triple digits in kills.
 
Brogan Wallin and Taylor Vaneekeren have amassed 362 and 313 assists, respectively, while splitting time at setter for the Argos. Wallin and Vaneekeren have directed UWF to first place in the GSC in hitting percentage as a team, notching a mark of .242 on the season.
 
The Argos will host the University of Montevallo on Friday evening before hosting AUM on Saturday.

The Warhawks will host Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Friday, Oct. 5 in the AUM Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. between the Hawks and Warhawks.
