Volleyball To Take Part In Huntingdon Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will take part in the 2018 Huntingdon Invitational hosted by cross-town foe Huntingdon College on Friday and Saturday, with the Warhawks playing four matches in two days at the event.

About the Warhawks
After starting the season 0-2 the Warhawks have reeled off four consecutive victories to improve to 4-2 on the year. AUM went 3-0 at its first ever AUM Invitational this past weekend, defeating LeMoyne-Owen (3-0), Limestone College (3-1) and Tuskegee (3-0) at the event.
 
Junior outside hitter Sommer Rhea is currently leading the team offensively with 59 kills on the year, with a 3.11 kill per set average and a .301 attack percentage. She is followed closely by senior middle blocker Brianna Garvin, who has 47 kills in 2018 while averaging 2.47 kills per set and hitting for a .381 clip.
 
Senior setter Carly Smart leads the team in assists with 126, posting 7.0 sets per game while directing AUM to a .222 hitting percentage as a team. Smart also tops the Warhawks in service aces with 10. Freshman Emily Ward has taken over the libero position for the Orange & Black, leading the team in digs with 58 while averaging 3.05 digs per set.
 
This will be the first meeting between AUM and NC Wesleyan as well as the first match between the Warhawks and Agnes Scott. AUM is 3-0 lifetime against the Golden Tigers and 1-0 against Hawks in program history.
 
The four-match win streak for the Warhawks is the longest in team history.
 
Up Next
The Warhawks will open Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 11 when they travel to the University of Montevallo for a 6 p.m. match against the Falcons.
