Fourth-Quarter Push From Falcons Dooms AUM in 61-56 Setback

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team led for over 35 minutes of game time on Saturday, Jan, 19 in their Gulf-South-Conference road matchup with The University of Montevallo, but a 28-point fourth quarter from the Falcons proved to be the difference maker in the Warhawks 61-56 loss. 
 
NOTES
- With the loss, AUM's record drops to 2-15 overall, and 1-8 in GSC action.
- The Warhawk's all-time advantage over Montevallo falls to 25-12 with the setback.
- The Orange and Black's 35-plus minutes of being in the led translated to 89 percent of the game's entirety. 
- AUM shot 40 percent from the field for the third time this season.
 
STANOUT PERFORMERS
- Jordan Brewster led AUM in scoring on the afternoon, with 17 points. Brewster also accounted for four rebounds and two assists. 
- Victoria Morales scored double-digit points for the second-straight contest, finishing with 14 points and six boards.
- Evelina Avleeva grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while also dishing out two assists, grabbing two steals and scoring two points.
- Aaliyah Milord pulled down eight rebounds, while also picking up three assists, two points and two steals.
                                         
HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Warhawks opened up the game on a 13-6 run through the first five minutes of game time, with Brewster accounting for 11 of those points on three treys.
- Another three-ball from Brewster at the 2:36 mark would put the Warhawks up 16-8, before the AUM would finish the quarter on top 19-10 over the Falcons.
- The Warhawks would lead by as many as 11 points in the second quarter, including a lay-up from Bullard at the 6:58 mark in the quarter to put AUM up 25-14 over the Falcons.
- Montevallo would battle back in the latter minutes of the period, however, with a 7-2 run to trim AUM's lead to 27-21 at the half.
- Montevallo would continue to nip at AUM heels to begin the third quarter, cutting AUM's lead to just four points twice in the period.
- Leading 36-32 with 5:31 left in the quarter, AUM would tally an 8-1 run to finish out the third, with Morales scoring six of the Warhawk's eight over the run. 
- Leading 46-36 with 8:13 left in the game, the Warhawks would see their lead shrink sizably as a result of a 9-2 run by the Falcons over the next three minutes. 
- A layup by Morales with 3:49 left would put AUM back up by seven at 52-45, but the Falcons would rebuttal with a 7-1 run to cut AUM's deficit to 53-52 with 1:19 to go.
- The Warhawks led 55-52 with 1:07 left in the game, but the Falcons would take advantage of a rare five-point possession, coming on a three-pointer and a pair of free throws from an off-ball foul, to go up 57-55 with 55 second to go. Montevallo would not look back after taking the lead late, finishing on a 4-1 run to secure the 61-56 win.

"Once again, we played hard, but were unable to execute down the stretch, which really cost us" Head Coach Sean Page said. "I'm proud of the team's effort, be we've got to learn to finish games and play through adversity."

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- AUM converted 18-45 (40 %) field goals on the day, while holding the Falcons to just 35 percent (21-60) in the contest.
- AUM held Montevallo to just 18 percent (4-22) from beyond the arc.
- The Warhawks totaled 13 assists, compared to 11 for the Falcons.
- The Falcons bested AUM in the rebounding department, 39-36.
- AUM amassed 16 points in the paint, while scoring eight points off of Montevallo turnovers. 
- Saturday's game featured six lead changes, and two tie scores.

UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will see a week-long break before returning to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they host Valdosta State University in their homecoming game. Tip-off from the AUM Gymnasium is slated for 2:00 p.m.
