Women’s Basketball Hosts #8 Union Thursday, Travels to Shorter Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team will play a pair of Gulf-South-Conference contests at week's end, with a home tilt against #10 Union on Thursday, Jan. 10 and a road matchup at Shorter on Saturday, Jan. 12.

About the Warhawks
AUM comes into their end-of-the-week contests with a record of 0-13, and 0-5 in GSC action. The Warhawks head into their matchup averaging 50.2 points per game, while shooting 34 percent from the field on the year.
 
Last Time Out
The Warhaws dropped a 73-70 heartbreaker at home against West Alabama, despite leading for 37 minutes in the game. The Warhawks shot a season-high 44 percent in the setback, with four players scoring in double figures for the first time all year (Avleeva – 19,Brewster – 18, Bullard – 17, Morales – 11).
 
Point Leaders
Jordan Brewster leads the AUM offensive with a 15 points-per-game scoring average, including a 12-8 points-per-game mark in GSC games. Evelina Avleeva's 10.5 points-per-game ranks for second on the team, while accounting for the other Warhawk averaging in double figures in scoring for the season.
 
On the Glass
Avleeva paces AUM in the rebounding department, with an 8.2 boards-per-game average. Aaliyah Milord's eight rebounds-per-game average in conference action leads the team.
 
Unofficial GSC Leader
With the Warhawks not being eligible for GSC statistical rankings in their current transition to NCAA Division-II, several of Brewster's numbers unofficially rank for the GSC high in their respective statistical categories. The freshman guard unofficially leads the conference in overall minutes played (480), minutes per game (37.3), three-pointers made (52) and threes per game (4).
 
Block Party
The Warhawks unofficially lead the conference in blocked shots with 56 and 4.3 blocks per contest. Victoria Morales leads the Warhawks with a 1.2 blocks-per-game average. 
 
The Series
AUM holds an all-time series record of 3-11 against Union, an all-time mark of 32-9 against Shorter. The Warhawks fell 88-57 earlier in the season at Union, while knocking off Shorter 54-49 in their most recent matchup on December 2 of the 2017-18 season. 
 

About the Bulldogs
Union (13-1, 5-1 GSC) checked in at number eight in the most recent national rankings compiled by the WBCA, and at number 10 in the D2SIDA National Rankings. The Bulldogs knocked off Alabama Huntsville 76-70 at home in their most recent contest on Saturday, Jan. 5.
 
GSC Offensive Leader
The Bulldogs bring the most efficient and productive offense in the Gulf South into Thursday's matchup with Warhawks. Union is averaging a GSC-best 78.7 points per game, with a GSC-best 21.6 scoring margin, and shooting a conference-high 46 percent from the field.  
 
Stat Leaders
Martin Morgan leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the GSC in points per game (16.8), while also pacing the team and sitting third in the conference in rebounds per game (8.8). Jada Smith's 13.4 points per game and Jada Perkin's 11.7 points per game account for two other Bulldogs averaging double figures in scoring.
 
 
About the Hawks
Shorter (1-11, 0-5 GSC) fell 69-59 against Delta State at home on Jan. 5 in GSC play their last time out. Prior to their matchup with the Warhawks, the Hawks will travel to Alabama-Huntsville for a GSC contest against the Chargers on Thursday, Jan. 10.
 
Inside the Numbers
The Hawks are currently averaging 47.3 points per game on the season, while allowing opponents to score 67 per contest. Shorter is shooting 33 percent from the field and averaging 33 rebounds per game.
 
Stat Leaders
Raven Fair leads the Shorter offense with a 13.3 points-per-game average, while also leading the Hawks with an 8.1 rebounds-per-game mark. Tatum Ragsdale's 11.2 points-per-game clip makes for the other Shorter Hawk averaging double figures in scoring on the season.
