Men’s Soccer to Host UAH and West Alabama in GSC Weekend Slate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team will play host to a pair of in-state Gulf South Conference rivals this weekend, taking on Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, Oct. 11 and West Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 13.

ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM (6-3, 3-0 GSC) heads into the weekend riding a six-match win streak, the Warhawks longest win streak since the 2013 season.  The Warhawks notched a 4-1 win at Spring Hill College on Oct. 4 and a 1-0 win at #6 ranked West Florida in their most recent work last weekend. 
 
The Warhawks conference record of 3-0 currently finds them second in the Gulf South Conference standings, just one point behind the Choctaws of Mississippi College, who hold a record of 3-0-1.
 
For the first time as members of NCAA Division II, the Warhawks were receiving votes in the most recent national rankings compiled by the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday, Oct. 8. AUM additionally checked in at number five in the south regional poll put together by the United Soccer Coaches, the Orange and Black's highest ranking in the poll since making the jump to D-II.
 
Senior Tate Dean and sophomore Renan Diniz both took home the Warhawk's first ever weekly accolades from the GSC, with Diniz being named GSC Player of the Week and Dean taking home GSC Defender of the Week honors. Diniz scored two goals and added an assist for the Warhawks over the course of last weekend's action, while Dean logged the game-winning goal in AUM's 1-0 win at West Florida and helped lead a Warhawk defense that gave up just one goal over the two-game stretch.
 
Through nine matches, the Warhawks have netted 15 goals, for an average of 1.67 per match. Thomas Carlile and Diniz both lead the Orange and Black with four goals apiece, while Diniz leads the conference with three game-winning goals. 
 
Arnaud Baron leads AUM in the assist stat column with four, while also raking second in the conference. Carlile ranks second on the team with three assists, while Phillip Spickenbaum has added a pair of assists on the year. 
 
On the defensive side of the ball, AUM has given up nine goals on the year, for an average of one allowed per contest. The Warhawk defense has been extra stingy over their last four matches, allowing just one goal and collecting three shutouts.
 
Goalkeeper Alexander Kraus currently boasts a record of 6-1, to go along with a goals against average of 0.70 that ranks for fourth in the conference. Kraus has also compiled an 81 percent save efficiency, and pitched three shutouts for the Warhawks in 2019.
 
The Warhawks hold an all-time advantage of 4-3 over Alabama Huntsville, and will be looking for their first ever win over West Alabama, who leads the series 4-0. 
 
ABOUT THE CHARGERS
Alabama-Huntsville (3-5, 1-1 GSC) comes into their contest with AUM having lost two of their last three matches, including a 2-1 setback to Carson-Newman University on Tuesday, Oct. 8 their last time out. 
 
The Chargers are averaging 1.63 goals per contest in 2019, and are led by Rafa Moreno's four goals scored. Khalil Bell, Connor Young and Brayant Toro all have notched a pair of goals, while Vicente Arratia leads UAH with three assists.
 
The Charger defense has surrendered 12 goals to their opponents over eight games, for a pace of 1.50 goals allowed per contest. Drew Kelly (2-2) and Simon Voss (1-3) have both seen action in four matches for UAH, with Kelly posting a team-best 1.43 GAA and 13 saves. 
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
West Alabama (3-4, 1-1 GSC) has dropped three of their last four matches, including a 2-1 loss at North Georgia on Thursday, Oct. 3 their last time out. The Tigers knocked off Delta State 3-0 in Cleveland, Miss. on Sunday, Sept. 29 in their most recent GSC matchup.
 
Adam Zayed leads a Tiger attack averaging 1.14 goals per game, with two goals scored on the season. Kyle McLeod and David Nascimento lead the Tigers with two assists each on the year. 
 
The Tigers have allotted 13 goals through seven games, for a mark of 1.86 per match. Cosmas Uzoaru (3-3) has seen the bulk of playing time in goal, posting a 1.61 goals against average and 26 saves on the season. 
 
Prior to their meeting with AUM, West Alabama will take on the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala. on Friday, Oct. 11.
