How it Happened
- Both sides started the game slow out of the gate as neither team was able to gain an edge on the opponent's back line. West Alabama had three corner kicks awarded to them within the first 10 minutes of the game but were unable to capitalize.
- The Warhawks came close to scoring in the 22' minute when
Ruby Mendez marched down the right side of the field and laced a shot that was labeled for the back of the net, only to be denied by the left post and the game remained scoreless.
- The game went into halftime tied at zero, and the beginning of the second half had the same pace of play as the first. The Warhawks and Tigers traded chances to begin the second frame, but neither side was able to get any high-quality looks.
- The Warhawks upped the tempo in the 70' minute of action as the team was able to take advantage of an awarded corner kick, but
Ariel Jones' header was just high over the bar. However, moments later, Mollison was ready to head in a corner of her own for the first score of the game.
- AUM would have multiple chances to double their score, most notably in the 86' minute of the match when Mollison found herself alone with the keeper, but her shot was stopped by the West Alabama netminder.
- Heartbreak would set in during the dying seconds of the game when Tigers forward Alyssa Young found the ball in the midst of a scramble and shot it past Fletcher into the net to tie the game at one with 24 seconds left.
- The game would go into overtime, and it was dominated by West Alabama as Fletcher had to make three critical stops in the opening minutes of extra time to keep the game alive for AUM.
- West Alabama would close the game with a score in the 95' minute when the Tiger midfield linked up to find Martin, who then slotted the ball from the left side of the box into the right side of the net to give West Alabama the win.
