Mendez Makes History In 4-1 Loss To Montevallo

Montgomery, Ala. – Ruby Mendez moved into third place all-time in goals scored in Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team's 4-1 home defeat to Gulf South Conference foe Montevallo on Thursday night.

Game Notes
- Montevallo had three different goal scorers contribute to the winning effort.
- AUM sees their record fall to 1-10 on the year, and now have a conference record of 1-6.
- Montevallo sees their record rise to 7-2-3 with a GSC mark of 5-1-1.

Standout Performers
- Senior forward Ruby Mendez moved into third place in program history in goals scored with her mark in the 59' minute of the game.
Brianna Yurkovich and Milian Mollison both hit the crossbar during the match with the Falcons.
- Hannah Waki scored the game-winning goal for the Falcons in the 48' minute.

How it Happened
- Montevallo would waste no time getting on the board first as in the 3' minute of the game, Melanie Stevens ran three-quarters of the field and eventually found herself all alone in the box and slotted the ball under Dejon Fletcher for the game's first goal.
- The Falcons would keep the pressure for the next 10 minutes as they came close to breaking through again in the 9' minute of action when Kristen Chance fired a shot to the lower-left corner of the net, but the chance was met by the diving Fletcher.
- AUM would have their first high-quality chance of the match in the 17' minute when Yurkovich just missed her first career goal when her shot rang off the crossbar, and the game remained at 1-0.
- The final 20 minutes of the half saw great chances for both sides as in the 26' minute, Romee Contreras was denied on a breakaway by Fletcher. The Falcon forward tried to find the lower left part of the net, but the AUM keeper stood tall. Milian Mollison would march down the field eight minutes later but like Yurkovich earlier in the half, the shot hit the crossbar and the deficit remained at one.
- The Warhawks opened the second half with possession and took full advantage of a lazy Montevallo defense as a deflected shot from Mollison almost floated into the back of the net that would have tied the game.
- However, Montevallo would come down the field in the 49' minute when Waki cleaned up the loose ball in front of the net to score the Falcons' second goal of the game.
- Montevallo would add their third goal of the game in the 52' minute when Samara Lino took a pass from Romme at the top of the penalty area and beat the AUM keeper to the lower right side of the net.
- Mendez would cement herself as one of the best women's soccer players in school history in the 59' minute when she saw the ball sitting in the box in a crowd of defenders and somehow punched it past the Falcon keeper.
- Montevallo would add another goal when Lino took a pass from Waki and was able to change the direction of the shot to slot the ball past Fletcher to run the game to 4-1.
