Volleyball To Take Part In GSC/SSC Crossover

The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team will travel to Hoover, Ala., to participate in the 2019 GSC/SSC crossover event, a tournament that features teams from the Gulf South and Sunshine State Conferences. The Orange & Black will take on Palm Beach Atlantic and Eckerd College on Friday at 11:15 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, before playing the defending national champion Tampa Spartans on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.

About the Warhawks
After winning three consecutive games to close out the September schedule, AUM (9-7, 3-4) has dropped their last three games to Gulf South Conference opponents. The Warhawks will be playing their seventh neutral site game on Friday morning and currently hold a 4-2 record in neutral-site contests.
 
Senior outside hitter Sommer Rhea continues to pace the Warhawks in kills this season, as she leads the team in kills with 200. Rhea's 200 kills currently ranks in the top-10 in the conference, while also averaging 3.23 kills per set.
 
Isadora Nicolai leads the squad in assists with 623 in 2019. Isadora currently places fifth among GSC setters, and the sophomore has netted almost 10 assists per set, coming in at a 9.89 assists per frame pace.
 
Junior libero Carla Butler is leading the way for AUM in digs this season with 267. Butler and Rhea (220) are the only two Warhawks to amass over 200 digs this season, and Butler's mark of 267 ranks eighth in the conference.

This tournament will mark the first time this season the Warhawks will play programs from the Sunshine State Conference.
 
About the Sailfish
Palm Beach Atlantic is entering their match with the Warhawks after winning three consecutive conference games, including a 3-1 victory over No. 24 Barry on Oct. 8. The Sailfish have also shown the ability to play in neutral-site contests, netting a 5-2 record in tournament play.

Sam Wolf currently leads the team in kills for PBA, amassing 207 kills over her team's first 16 matches. Wolf averages just under four kills per set, coming in at a kills/set mark of 3.96.

About the Tritons
The Tritons will head to Hoover after losing their last two games to Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University. Eckerd sits in sixth place in the Sunshine State Standings with a 4-4 conference record, but the Tritons sport an undefeated neutral site mark of 3-0.

Sydney Case currently ranks second in the SSC in assists with 602 helpers. Case trails only Anna Garrett (662) of Saint Leo for most in the conference. The Tritons also have the conference leader in aces, with Danna Dull leading the way with 28 service aces.

About the Spartans
The Spartans are coming off national championships in both indoor and outdoor volleyball and are currently receiving votes in the latest national rankings. Tampa is one of the hottest teams in the country and are coming into the tournament having won their past six matches.

Katie McKiel is the conference leader in kills with 241, and her 3.77 kills per set is also tops in the league. As a team, Tampa is second in the Sunshine State in kills (827) and assists (782) while limiting their opponents to a .193 hitting percentage which also ranks second in the conference.
