HOOVER, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to defending National Champion the University of Tampa on Saturday afternoon as a part of the 2019 Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover tournament.
NOTES
- The Warhawks fall to 9-10 on the season having dropped six matches in a row.
- Tampa improves 13-6 overall.
- The Spartans won the match 25-11, 25-15, 25-16.
- This was the first match between the two schools.
- AUM finished the GSC/SSC Crossover 0-3.

Sommer Rhea tallied a team-high five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw the Spartans run out to a 15-5 lead before AUM was able to break serve. After a 5-3 run by the Warhawks cut the deficit to 18-10 the Spartans went on a 7-1 run to take the first set 25-11.

Jaylyn Felder started the second set with a kill but UT would answer with an 10-2 run to gain the early advantage. The two teams would trade points until the Orange & Black were able to pull to within 16-12 on a
Skylar Coppinger service aces. The teams battled to 18-14 before a 7-1 run by Tampa gave the Spartans a 25-15 victory.
- Tampa jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the third set lead before a block by
Giada Pais-Marden pulled the Warhawks to within 14-10. A quick 5-0 run pushed the UT advantage to 19-10 before AUM was able to break serve. Down 21-11 the Warhawks rallied for four straight points capped off by a block by
Ariadne Borges and
Isadora Nicolai, but the defending champs closed out the match on a 4-1 run.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Spartans notched a .299 hitting percentage while AUM was held to a -.049 mark.
- UT tallied 42 kills to just 15 for the Warhawks.
- AUM had three blocks while Tampa had four.
