MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team tied the program record for wins in a season on Tuesday evening, earning 3-0 victories over Clark Atlanta and Albany State in a dual match at the AUM Gymnasium which pushed the Warhawks' record to 11-10, tying the mark set in 2018.
NOTES
- The Warhawks improve to 11-10 on the season and 6-2 at home.
- The win snapped a six-match losing skid dating back to AUM's 3-2 victory over Valdosta State on Oct. 4.
- CAU falls to 4-10 and ASU falls to 13-10.
- The loss for the Golden Rams snapped a six-match win streak.
- AUM went 11-20 in 2018, the second year of the program.
- The Warhawks are now 8-6 in non-conference matches.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Sophomore defensive specialist
Kennedy Raffle tallied 29 digs over two matches, including a career-high 15 against Clark Atlanta. Raffle also set a career-high and tied a school record with five service aces against the Panthers.
- Sophomore outside hitters Dariona Dahs and
Nyah Whittlesey each collected 16 kills over the two contests to lead all Warhawks.
- Junior
Carla Butler set a new season-high for kills with eight ASU, tallying 15 total in the two matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED – CLARK ATLANTA
- AUM ran out to a 7-0 lead capped off by a pair of
Simone Brown kills before CAU was able to break serve. The Warhawks then pushed their advantage to 19-5, going on a 12-3 run to put the contest out of reach. Clark Atlanta was able to match the Orange & Black point-for-point the rest of the way, but
Dariona Dash was able to put the set away on a spike from the right side to give AUM 25-10 victory.
- The second set saw the Warhawks jump out to a 13-2 lead before the Panthers were able to put some points together. With a 17-6 lead the Warhawks went on a 5-0 run to push their lead to 22-6. After trading points
Kennedy Raffle was able to put the frame away with a service ace to give AUM a 25-9 victory.
- The two teams traded points back and forth to start the third set, with CAU taking a 11-10 lead. AUM responded with a 4-0 run but the Panthers answered with a 4-0 run of their own to go up 15-14. The Warhawks scored four in a row to go up 18-14 before CAU broke serve. The Warhawks pushed their lead to 20-17 on a
Lieke Brouwer kill but the Panthers were able to break serve to cut the lead to 20-18. AUM responded with a 5-1 run to take the set 25-19, winning on a
Giada Pais-Marden spike.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – CLARK ATLANTA
- The Warhawks tallied 38 kills while only allowing 18 by CAU.
- AUM hit for a .286 average while the Panthers hit .026.
- The Orange & Black set a team record for aces in a match with 12 with Clark Atlanta picking up three of their own.
HOW IT HAPPENED – ALBANY STATE
- AUM jumped out to a 7-2 lead capped off by a Pais-Marden kill before the Golden Rams scored a pair of quick points to cut the deficit to 7-4. The Warhawks responded with a 12-2 run prior to ASU scoring 10 of the next 12 points to cut the lead to 23-16, but AUM was able to get the final two points they needed to take the first set 25-17.
- ASU jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Warhawks stormed back to tie the frame at 5-5 on a kill by Brouwer. The two teams then traded points back and forth until AUM took a 14-11 lead. After a side-out by the Golden Rams AUM tallied seven straight points to go up 21-12, eventually winning the set 25-14 on a Brouwer service ace.
- The Warhawks took a 12-5 lead in the third set before ASU mounted a furious comeback of their own, cutting the lead to 15-14 for AUM. After a pair of side-outs by the two teams the Orange & Black rallied for eight straight points to reach match point at 24-15. The Rams were able to stave off defeat momentarily, but
Sommer Rhea would finish the match with a kill to take the frame 25-16 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – ALBANY STATE
- AUM tallied 45 kills while ASU tallied 25.
- The Warhawks racked up 44 assists while the Golden Rams has 24.
- AUM had 65 digs and ASU had 64.
