Men’s Soccer Falls to Shorter on Senior Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Gulf South Conference decision to the Shorter University Hawks on Friday, Oct. 25 from the AUM Soccer Complex.

NOTEWORTHY
- The loss marks for AUM's first defeat in nine matches, while bringing their record to 7-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in GSC play.
- Prior to kickoff, seniors Alexis Arriaga, Lyndsey Moreland, Caleb Fargarson and Tate Dean were recognized as a part of Senior Night.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Arnaud Baron, Renan Diniz and Dean all logged a pair of shots in the match, with Diniz and Baron both accounting for a shot on goal.
- Eric Besse and Alexander Wagner both also registered a shot on goal in the contest.
- In goal, Alexander Kraus (7-2-2) collected four saves in the setback.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shorter notched their first of three goals within the first 10 minutes of the contest, with an eighth-minute strike to grab the early 1-0 lead.
- AUM would go on to outshoot the Hawks in the half, 6-4 but would see a handful of goal-scoring opportunities go for not. Baron saw one of the Warhawk's better looks in the 16th minute, but his flush strike from just outside the box would find the hands of the Shorter keeper.
- The Warhawks saw another near miss right before the break, as a header from Wagner in the 43rd minute off of a Besse throw-in would clank off the left post and into possession of the Shorter netminder.
- Shorter would go on to add a pair of second-half goals within six minutes of game time of each other, with 66th and 72nd strikes to give way to the 3-0 final.

QUOTING THE COACH
I'd first like to congratulate the seniors and all of the work that they have put in over the last few years," Head Coach Matthew Thorne said. "Regarding the game, I'm very disappointed with our performance. Shorter outworked and outplayed us. We have to self-reflect, myself included, and get back to the basics. We came in too flat tonight, and possibly a little too confident. Shorter definitely deserved to win this one. We'll reflect on it, look to see what we can do better, and see if we can get a reaction on Monday against Lee. There's still a lot of this season to play for, and we'll look to bounce back and improve as always."

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- AUM outshot Shorter in the game, 12-11, while taking six shots in both the first and second period.
- Four of the Warhawk's 12 shots came on frame.
- The Orange and Black took four corner kicks in the game, while holding Shorter to just one.
- AUM was tagged for nine fouls, while Shorter was on the receiving end of 10.

UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will return to their home pitch on Monday, Oct. 28 to take on Lee University in Gulf South Conference play. Kickoff from the AUM Soccer Complex is set for 5:30 p.m.
