How it Happened
- Mendez and the Warhawks started right on time in this game, earning multiple chances in the box. However, both of the senior's shots were met by the hands of the Shorter keeper, and the game remained scoreless in the opening minutes.
- Shorter was unable to get any sustained pressure on the Warhawk defense, though in the 23' minute, Shorter had a lazy shot from outside the box that floated into the arms of
Dejon Fletcher in goal.
- Fletcher was tested again in the second half in the 55' minute when she had reached as high as she could to knock a Hawk shot over the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Moments later, Mendez found herself in all alone with the keeper, but her shot was stopped at point-blank range.
- In the 71' minute, Mendez would finally break through after bombarding the Hawk defense with shots all night long. The senior forward took the ball from the midfield line and dribbled through the Shorter defense and beat the keeper to the right to give the Warhawks the lead.
- Just seven minutes later, Shorter would take a shot from outside the penalty area, but the shot was met by the body of Fletcher. However, the ball would rebound to the feet of Salgado as she punched the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at one.
- Shorter had the only real chance to win the game in overtime with a chance in the 94' minute. A pair of Shorter forwards had an opportunity to score the golden goal, but Fletcher made two great saves from the ground to keep the game tied.
