HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks came out swinging in the first set, taking a commanding 10-5 lead right off the hop before Lee came back to bring the score to 11-9 moments after. The two sides would go back and forth trying to gain a significant advantage. The Lady Flames trailed by two points throughout the majority of the first frame but could not sustain a rally long enough to take the lead. AUM closed out the first set thanks to three straight kills by
Giada Pais-Marden to win the first game 25-20.
- The second frame played similar to the first in that neither program was able to gain a lead of three or more points. However, with the score sitting at 14-13 in favor of the Warhawks, the Lady Flames rattled off five consecutive points to put themselves ahead 18-14. The Orange & Black attempted a comeback later in the set with four straight scores to run the game to 22-22, but Lee would pull away and win the set 25-23.
- AUM came out determined in the third set and would not let Lee get back into the contest. Before the Lady Flames knew what happened, the Warhawks took an 11-4 lead. AUM extended their lead to 22-8 thanks to three consecutive service aces by Nicolai. Lee would not score more than three times in a row until the game was 23-11 in favor of AUM. The Orange & Black would go on to win the third frame 25-13.
- The short break would not deter the Warhawks from continuing the momentum gained in the third set as the team raced out to a 10-5 lead. A kill by Pais-Marden and
Nyah Whittlesey, combined with two errors from the Lady Flames pushed the Warhawk lead to 14-6. Lee was never able to rattle off more than two consecutive scores in the final set of the match, which resulted in the Warhawks winning the set 25-13.
