Men’s Soccer Downs #6 West Florida on Road, 1-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- In what can be described as the program's marquee win so far in 2019, the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team knocked off the number-six ranked Argonauts of West Florida 1-0 in Gulf South conference action on Sunday, Oct. 6 in Pensacola for their sixth consecutive victory.

NOTEWORTHY
- The win brings AUM's record to 6-3, and 3-0 in GSC play.
- The victory marks for the program's first win over a ranked team since joining division II, and brings AUM's all-time record over West Florida to 8-7.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Tate Dean scored the game's lone goal in minute number 66, his first of the 2019 season.
- Renan Diniz tallied a team-best two shots, with one shot on goal.
- Eric Besse and Phillip Spickenbaum both logged a shot on goal, while Arnaud Baron and Lyndsey Moreland both accounted for a shot taken.
- In goal, Alexander Kraus turned in one of his better performances of the season, with four crucial saves for the Warhawks en route to his third shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks were the aggressor early, with three shots over the match's first 15 minutes.
- The Argos would respond with a pair of decent looks over the next 10 minutes, including a hard strike from just outside the box that was corralled by Kraus in the 25th minute.
- Both teams would see opportunities to score in the waning minutes of the first period, but could not capitalize, as the score would read 0-0 at the break.
- Dean's eventual game-winner would come off of a long free kick by Alexander Wagner. The kick was knocked away originally by the Argo keeper, but would rattle around and find Dean's foot for a precise lob shot that just cleared the UWF goalie.
- The Argos would get several looks in the second half, including a point-blank range look in the 74th minute that Kraus would swat away. The AUM backline would go on to hold strong to preserve the shutout and clinch the upset over the Argos.
