Warhawks Sink Lady Bucs, Win Sixth In A Row

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team extended their winning streak to a season-high sixth straight match with a 3-0 home win over Gulf South Conference opponent Christian Brothers on Friday night.

NOTES
- AUM improves their record to 15-10, with a 6-4 record in GSC play.
- The Lady Bucs drop to 6-20 on the year, with a 3-7 conference mark.
- The Warhawks won the match 25-13, 25-23, 28-26.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
-Freshman outside hitter Giada Pais-Marden led the Warhawks in kills with 18, while recording two service aces.
- Libero Carla Butler paced the Warhawks in digs with 22. 
- Isadora Nicolai led the way for the Orange & Black in assists with 39.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks and Lady Bucs traded punches early on in the match, trading the first six points of the opening frame. AUM went on their first run of the game shortly after, recording six straight points thanks to a service ace from Pais-Marden and two kills from Nyah Whittlesey to push the AUM lead to 9-3. AUM would grab control of the first set with four straight points thanks to two kills from Pais-Marden and a kill from Jaylyn Felder. The Warhawks led 21-8 after their second big run of the game and would take the set 25-13.  
- The second set featured a much more competitive frame with the two teams even at 10 points apiece through the first 20 points. With the Warhawks trailing 16-15, the Orange & Black went on to take five of the next six points to lead 19-17. Two kills by Sommer Rhea highlighted AUM's biggest run of the second set, but Christian Brothers would come back to tie the second frame at 20 in the following sequences. With the match deadlocked at 23, the Warhawks would receive two kills from Rhea to seal the Warhawks' victory in the second set 25-23.
- Both sides had early success in the final frame. AUM jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the third frame, with a service ace from Nicolai and two kills from Pais-Marden. Immediately after, the Lady Bucs took the next four points to tie the third set at six. The Warhawks would go down 16-13 in the middle of the final game but would rally to take five of the next seven points to cut the lead down to 18-17. With the Warhawks trailing by three, the Orange & Black would storm back to tie the game at 21 thanks to a kill by Ariadne Borges, an attack error by CBU and a service ace from Nicolai. The final set would need some additional play, but with Christian Brothers leading 26-25, the Warhawks took the next three points to rally back and capture a 28-26 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Warhawks led the match in kills, registering 49 to Christian Brothers' 35.
- AUM recorded a .322 swing percentage in the match while holding the Lady Bucs to a .224 clip.
- The Orange & Black recorded seven service aces, while Christian Brothers recorded four.

"It was a great win for our team tonight. Offensively we were aggressive and consistent, but I was a bit disappointed with our defense."

UP NEXT
The Orange & Black will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a critical Gulf South Conference match with Union. The match against the Bulldogs is slated for a 2 p.m. start from the AUM Gymnasium.
