ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM heads into the week with a record of 2-3 through their first five games of 2019. In their most recent action, the Warhawks knocked off Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 97-84 and fell 115-80 to Embry-Riddle last weekend in the Daytona Mitsubishi/Kia Shooting held in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Wahawks' 81.2 points per game currently ranks third in the GSC, led by four players averaging in double figures.
Carlos Bell and
Darrion Taylor's 13.6 points per game leads the Orange and Black, while
Stanley Davis (13.4) and
Maharrith Jackson (10) are both also averaging in double-digits.
Taylor (Lawrenceville, Ga.) became just the 19th member of the AUM Men's Basketball 1,000-point club in the Warhawks 115-80 setback at Embry-Riddle on Saturday, Nov. 16. The senior guard, who needed just 10 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark heading into the game, scored 11 on the night.
The Warhawks currently lead all GSC teams with 77 assists tallied so far. Taylor leads the conference with 27 assists, while ranking fourth with a 5.4 assists-per-game rate.
AUM also paces the Gulf South with 45 three-pointers made, while their average of nine threes per game ranks for second in the conference. Davis has knocked down a GSC-best 16 treys on the season, and ranks fourth in the conference with a 3.2 threes-per-game average.
The Orange and Black rank fifth in the GSC in the rebounding department, averaging 40.4 boards per game.
Aaron Reddick (7.4 per game) and Jackson (6.4 per game) both rank among the top 15 rebounders in the conference.
The Warhawks hold a 2-1 all-time advantage over Miles, and will be looking to avenge a 73-70 loss in Fairfield, Ala. to the Golden Bears on Wednesday, Nov. 13 earlier in the season. The Orange and Black trail lee 12-7 in their series history.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN BEARS
Miles (3-0) heads into their matchup with AUM winners of their first three games to begin their 2019-20 campaign. The Golden Bears knocked off Oakwood University 65-50 at home their last time out on Monday, Nov. 18.
The Golden Bears are currently averaging 69.3 points per game, while shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent on three pointers. Miles is holding their opponents to just 60 points per contest, while allowing them to shoot just 38 percent on field goals and 22 percent from beyond the arc.
Four different players for Miles are averaging in double figures, with Jelani Watson-Gayle (13.7) and Avery Brown (13) both averaging 13 points a game for the Golden Bears. Brown additionally leads the squad with 10 assists, while Braeden Stewart leads Miles with a 7.3 rebounds-per-game rate.
ABOUT THE FLAMES
Lee (2-2) fell 99-85 at King University out of the Conference Carolinas in their most recent game on Monday, Nov. 18.
Lee stands alone as the only team in the GSC to currently be both averaging 80 points a game and shooting 50 percent from the field. The Flames also feature the GSC's leading scorer in Ryan Montgomery, who's currently averaging 24.8 points and five rebounds per contest.
The Flames hold the second best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Gulf South at 1.07. Kentrell Evans (23) ranks second in the Gulf South in assists, while Parker Suedekum (19) sits seventh.
