Volleyball Swept On The Road In Conference Play

CLINTON, Miss. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team dropped a road Gulf South Conference decision to the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws on Friday afternoon 3-0. This marked the first time the Warhawks have been swept since October 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College came ready to defend their home court and took a commanding 11-4 lead in the opening set. The Warhawks, however, would respond by taking five straight points to run the initial frame to 11-8. MC responded with a run of their own after AUM cut the deficit to three by taking six of the next seven scores to take an 18-10 lead. The Orange & Black would fight to the dying moments of the first set by recording five consecutive points to trim the Lady Choctaw lead to 22-17, but it was Mississippi College who would come away with the opening game 25-18.
- The beginning of the second set played almost identical to the first as the Lady Choctaws jumped out to a 12-4 lead to distance themselves from AUM early on. Like the first set, the Warhawks would cut the lead down to four thanks to a kill from Dariona Dash and a service ace from Skylar Coppinger. However, the Lady Choctaws closed out the set on a massive run, taking seven of the final eight points of the second set to win the frame 25-14.
- The third frame proved to be much more competitive than the first two sets as the Warhawks jumped out to a 9-7 lead to take their first advantage of the match. However, their lead would go away quickly after Mississippi College took nine of the next 10 points to take a 16-10 lead. The Warhawks stopped the bleeding for the moment with a kill from Jaylyn Felder and an attack error from MC hitter Kendall Platt. Similar to the first two sets, the Lady Choctaws closed out the third set with purpose, taking five of the last six points to sink the Orange & Black 25-17.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- MC had the advantage in kills 41-23.
- The Lady Choctaws managed eight service aces, while the Warhawks recorded three.
- Mississippi College led the way in digs 43-29.

QUOTING THE COACH
"I am very disappointed in how we played today," said head coach Flavia Siqueira. "Our team played scared and hesitant, which at this late in the year is unacceptable and frustrating."
