Burns Five-RBI Day Propels AUM Past West Alabama, 9-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Junior infielder Caroline Burns blasted pair of home runs to account for five RBI in Auburn Montgomery's 9-1 five-inning victory over Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama on Saturday afternoon to take the 2-1 series win over the Tigers at the UWA Softball Complex.
 
NOTES
• AUM goes to 13-1 on the season with a 2-1 mark in league play.
• UWA moves to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the GSC.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 117-12 over their first 14 games.
• The Warhawks have scored first in all 14 games this season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Burns was 3-for-3 at the plate with five runs batted in and two runs scored after getting the start at first base.
• Centerfielder Parker Pinholster was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run of her own, driving in three runs and scoring two.
• Sophomore Michaelyn Foster improved to 5-0 as a pitcher this season, allowing one run on three hits over 4.0 innings while striking out two.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks got on the board in the top of the second after Gracie Harris led off the inning with a single to left followed by Burns who launched a two-run homer to left to put the visitors up 2-0.
• The top of the third saw Olivia Aycock single to short with one out followed by a Pinholster double to left to set up runners at second and third for Morgan Duschell. Duschell hit a base knock that scored Aycock and pushed Pinholster to third. With two on and two out Burns once again delivered a dinger for the Warhawks, sending a three-run shot to left to put the Orange & Black up 6-0.
Abby Krueger and Jaycie Walker each singled to start off the top of the fourth to give AUM a pair of base runners. Pinholster then delivered her third home run of the season, driving in three runs to give the Warhawks a 9-0 lead.
• UWA was able to scratch off a run in the bottom of fourth but could not get any more in the fifth, falling in five via the eight-run rule.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM scored nine runs on 13 hits with no errors.
• UWA scored one run on three hits with no errors.
• The Tigers' starter Nora Keehn fell to 3-3 on the season after allowing six runs on seven hits over 2.2 innings.
• The Warhawks tallied five extra base hits with three home runs, a double and a triple.
