Men’s Basketball Travels To West Georgia, Hosts Shorter This Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team will travel to the University of West Georgia on Thursday before hosting Shorter University on Saturday in a pair Gulf South Conference contests this week. Saturday will also be senior day for both the men's and women's basketball teams, with a ceremony prior to the start of the men's game at 4 p.m.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks are 7-18 on the season with a 3-14 mark in league play. AUM went 0-2 against UWG at home and Lee University on the road, falling 98-89 at home to the Wolver before dropping a road contest at the Flames 73-60.
 
Three Warhawks are averaging double figures in scoring, with junior guard Carlos Bell leading the way with a 14.3 points per game average, which is good enough for eighth in the GSC. Bell is also second on the team in rebounds with 159 and steals with 27.
 
Junior guard Darrion Taylor is second on the team in scoring with a 13.8 ppg average, while leading the team in assists with 76 and steals with 28. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native reached 900 points for his career against UWG last week and now stands at 923 for his career.
 
Junior center Aaron Reddick tops the league in blocked shots with 46 this year and is third on the team in scoring at 10.4 ppg. He also leads the team and is fifth in the GSC in rebounds with 200 this season.
 
About the Wolves
UWG is 15-10 overall and 10-7 in the GSC. The Wolves are coming off of an 88-67 victory at Shorter on Monday, clinching a berth in the 2019 GSC Men's Basketball Tournament with the win. The Wolves have won three in a row heading into the contest on Thursday.
 
Marquill Smith leads the GSC in scoring and rebounds, averaging 26.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Smith scored a career-high 48 points against AUM last week, as the Wolves earned the nine points victory.
 
About the Hawks
Shorter is 2-23 on the season with a 0-17 mark in the GSC. The Hawks are coming off of an 88-67 setback to UWG on Monday evening, falling by 21 at home on senior night. Shorter has lost 20 in a row, with their last victory coming against Pensacola Christian College on Nov. 20.
 
Two players are averaging double figures in points, with Joe Russell leading the way with 12.1 ppg. Russell also leads the team in steals with 29. Tayvaughn Major is second on the team in points with a 10.3 ppg average.
 
This will be the second meeting of the season, with AUM earning an 87-69 victory on Jan. 12 on the campus of the Hawks.
