Warhawk Staff Shines in Shutout Victory over Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. --- Warhawk starter Micah Henderson faced just two batters over the minimum over five innings, and reliever Todd Burkett induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded, to help the Auburn Montgomery baseball team preserve a 1-0 shutout win over Albany State on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in midweek action.

NOTES
- With the win, AUM improves to 9-6 on the season, and 4-1 all-time against Albany State.
- The shutout victory marks for the first time this season that AUM has blanked their opponent.
- The Warhawk staff surrendered a season-low two hits in the game.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Dalton Cobb accounted for AUM's lone run in the game, while also logging the Warhawk's lone extra base hit in the contest.
- Quinterrious Arrington and Casey Henderson both added a hit and a walk, while Matthew Zielonko, Kyle Khoury and Hayden Friesen all reach base via walk in the game.
- M. Henderson (2-1) earned the win on the mound for the Warhawks. The Wallace Community College Selma transfer struck out four batters, gave up just one hit, and faced just two over the minimum in his five innings of work on the day.
- Keegan Fairley added two innings of no-hit relief, while Sam Steigert would strikeout one over 1.1 innings of work.
T. Burkett (2) earned the save for the Warhawks. The senior right-hander faced just one batter in the ninth, inducing a game-ending 4-6-3 double play with one out and the bases loaded to slam the door shut for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks thwarted an early-run scoring opportunity for Albany State in the first, as M. Henderson would dance around a pair of walks to escape the inning unharmed and keep the game at 0-0.
- M. Henderson would go on to retire the next 10 batters, facing the minimum in innings two through five to close out his midweek start on a high note.
- After stranding five runners over the third and fourth innings, the Warhawks would finally strike pay dirt in the fifth, when Cobb came around to score on a Golden Ram error. Cobb doubled to left-center with one away to set up the run-scoring opportunity.
- M. Henderson would hand it over to Fairley, who would allow no hits and no runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
- Steigert would work a scoreless eighth inning, but ran into trouble in the ninth with one away, after an error by the Warhawks, a double by Albany State, followed by a intentional walk to load the bases with one out.
- T. Burkett made quick work of the one batter he faced in relief, however, getting him to ground into the 4-6-3 twin killing to put a bow on the 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- AUM outhit the Golden Rams in the game, 3-2.
- The Warhawks made just one error on defense, while Albany State committed three.
- AUM left 10 runners on base in the game, while Warhawk pitchers stranded five Golden Ram base runners.
