VALDOSTA, Ga. – Playing in his final contest as a Warhawks senior guard
Kenneth Keith scored a career-best 25 points for Auburn University at Montgomery, but it wasn't enough to slow the offensive efforts of #20 Valdosta State on Thursday evening as the Blazers picked up a 101-84 victory at home in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 8-20 on the season with a 4-16 mark in the GSC.
• VSU improves to 23-5 overall and 16-4 in league play.
• The Blazers sweep the season series with the Warhawks, and have won all four games between the two schools since AUM joined the GSC.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Keith tallied 25 points connecting on a career-best six 3-pointers. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
• Junior guard
Carlos Bell closed out the season with 16 points for the Orange & Black, pulling down six rebounds and recording three steals.
• Sophomore
Stanley Davis tallied 12 points, six rebounds and an assist in 21 minutes of action off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• AUM jumped out to an early advantage, going up 12-2 with 16:36 to go in the first on a Bell layup on a pass from
Mikel Davis. VSU would get its offense on track and the two teams would trade points back and forth, with the Blazers taking the lead at 20-19 with 13:40 left in the first.
• Once again the teams traded buckets, with Bell giving AUM a 26-25 lead with 11:17 until the break. The next five minutes saw the Blazers outscore AUM 16-10 to go up 41-35 with 6:13 to play, before closing the half on a 20-to-7 run to take a 61-42 lead into the half.
• VSU outscored the Warhawks 16-8 to start the second half, going up 77-50 with 13:18 to go on a Clay Guillozet 3-pointer. The two teams would trade buckets once again over the next four minutes, with AUM inching back into the contest to pull to within 84-66 with 9:23 to go on a trey by
EJ Card.
• However, the Warhawks could not get closer the rest of the way as the Blazers held off AUM's comeback attempt to take the game 101-84.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM out-rebounded Valdosta 44-37 in the contest.
• VSU won the points in the paint battle, outscoring AUM 48-40 in the category.
• The Blazers' bench outscored the Warhawks' 47-20.
