Softball Travels To GSW, Hosts Mississippi College This Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team will travel to Americus, Ga., to take on non-conference foe Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday before returning home for the first time since March 2 when they host Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College for a three-game series beginning on Friday.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks are 26-5 on the season having won their last four games and 13 of their last 14. They are also 7-5 in the GSC, 6-2 on the road, 13-3 at home and 7-0 at neutral sites. AUM went 4-0 this past week at the Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., defeating California University of Pennsylvania, Dominican College, Millersville University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
 
Junior slugger Jaycie Walker currently leads the team in batting average with a mark of .429. She is eighth in the league in batting average, but leads the entire conference in home runs with nine on the year. Her 29 runs batted in is tied for fourth in the GSC while also leading the Warhawks in that category.
 
Sophomore Michaelyn Foster has been a jack of all trades for the Warhawks this season, leading the team in wins (10) and innings pitched (58.0) from the circle while also hitting .362 on the season with 20 RBI offensively. Foster also has an earned run average of 0.48. Defensively she also has a .976 fielding percentage playing primarily at second base, recording 57 assists with only two errors in 83 chances.
 
Junior pitcher Chanel Newcomer is second on the team in wins with six and is tied for the team lead in strikeouts with freshman Savanna Holmes with 41. Newcomer also recorded her 200th career strikeout against Millersville on Thursday.
 
As a team the Warhawks are outscoring opponents 225-41 on the year, with a 234-107 hit advantage. AUM has also stolen 122 bases on 140 attempts while opponents have converted 18-28 stolen base attempts.
