Women’s Tennis Travels To Montevallo For Final Match Of 2019

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team will conclude their 2019 season with a road match against Gulf South Conference rival the University of Montevallo Falcons.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks (8-12, 6-4 GSC) will wrap up their 2019 campaign on the heels of a 5-2 loss to #12 West Alabama at home. Despite the setback, AUM has won four of their last six matches and have registered six conference victories.

Tonja Foessmeier will finish the season as the Warhawks leader in wins in singles competition. The Germany native has a 12-6 record, playing in three different positions for the Warhawks, including ten matches in the first slot.

AUM has excelled in singles competition as a team in conference play. Five of six Warhawks have winning records in GSC play, and as a team has earned a 34-20 record against GSC opponents.

Alba De la Torre has led the way in doubles play fro AUM this season, netting a team-high 11 wins. The sophomore has been paired with both Sofia Mustre and Svenja Petri, De La Torre has an overall record of 11-7.

About the Falcons
Montevallo (7-10, 4-5 GSC) have lost four-straight GSC matches after starting the season 4-1 in conference play. The Falcons have only won one home match this season, a 7-0 victory over Christian Brothers on February 2.

Emily Beatty leads the Falcons in wins during singles play and currently sports a 12-9 record. Beatty is also 5-3 within Gulf South Conference competition, but in her last ten matches, she has a 4-6 record.

Doubles play has been a struggle for Montevallo this season. As a team, the Falcons are 23-29 but have a 13-11 record in conference play. Conversely, The Falcons are two games above .500 in singles play with a 54-52 mark.
