MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team knocked Gulf South Conference rival Lee out of the GSC playoffs on Saturday afternoon, with a doubleheader sweep at home to conclude the season.
NOTES
- The Warhawks finish the year with a 27-22 record, their most wins since 2017.
- Lee concludes their year with a 23-25 mark and will miss the conference playoffs by one game.
- The 14 AUM seniors were recognized prior to their final game at the AUM Baseball Complex.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Casey Henderson registered six hits in the two games on Saturday afternoon, including a three-run triple in game one of the doubleheader.

Troy Jones notched his fourth win of the season, throwing all seven innings of game one, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six.
- Harrisson Morris and
Todd Burkett combined to throw seven innings in game two, allowing a combined two runs on just seven hits. Burkett took home his fourth win of the season in his final game wearing the Orange & Black.
- Lee's Alan Smith knocked in three hits in game two, including a solo shot in the third inning to bring across the game's first run.
- AUM needed just three pitchers to register the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, marking the first time this season the Warhawks were able to sweep a Saturday twin bill.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- Having pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the third, the Warhawks were able to add five runs in the third to push their lead to 6-0 after three frames of action.
- The first run of the inning was brought home on a throwing error by the Flame shortstop, bringing home the AUM right fielder Matt Zielonko. Henderson would then come up with the bases loaded and rope a triple into left-center field to clear the bases.
- Lee would push across their only run of the game in the top of the fifth when Taylor Payne single home teammate Joshua Perez to cut the deficit to 6-1.
- AUM would open the flood gates with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Dalton Cobb would come across to score on a wild pitch to open the scoring, then moments later Zielonko would come across via a wild pitch as well.
- The Warhawks would push across two more runs on RBI walks by
Quinterrious Arrington and
Zach Cumbie to push the score to 10-1.
- Zielonko's big day would not end quietly as he sent the series to a crucial game three with a walkoff solo shot over the left field wall to give AUM an 11-1 win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME ONE
- AUM outhit Lee 9-5 in game one.
- The Warhawks committed just one error in the game, while Lee committed two.
- AUM recorded 12 walks in the contest, while the Warhawks surrendered just four free passes.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- With a birth in the GSC Championships on the line, Lee jumped off to a hot start in game two of the doubleheader with a solo home run by Smith to bring across the game's first run.
- In the top of the fourth, Keyshaun Smith was able to score on an errant pickoff throw by Burkett, bringing the contest to 2-0.
- Those would be the only two runs the Flames would push across in the second game, as in the bottom of the fifth, AUM scored all six of their runs with just two of those runs being charged to the opposing pitcher.
- The scoring started with an RBI double by Cobb that brought home Henderson for the Warhawks first run of the afternoon. Following the RBI double,
Jonathan Brandt brought home Arrington on a fielding error by the Lee second baseman.
- AUM slugger
Grayson Blackwell was able to beat out a potential inning-ending double play ball to bring home Cobb and give AUM the lead. Warhawk catcher
Zach Feaster would bring home AUM's fourth run of the game on an RBI single into left field.
- Henderson would conclude his big day at the plate, bringing home the Warhawks fifth and sixth run of the game on a two-run single that got under a diving second baseman's glove to run the score to 6-2.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME TWO
- AUM and Lee both recorded seven hits in the final game of the season.
- In an error-filled game, the Warhawks committed four errors while Lee made five mishaps.
- Both teams earned two free passes in the series finale.
