MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery Athletic Department is proud to announce that 31 Warhawks will be receiving degrees at the 2019 Spring Commencement Ceremonies held in the AUM Gymnasium on Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Nine athletic programs will be represented in total on Saturday, with baseball graduating eight, women's soccer graduating five, volleyball graduating four, women's cross country and men's soccer graduating three, and men's basketball, women's basketball and softball graduating two.
"Graduation is a really special time of the year for everyone involved with athletics, especially the student-athletes," Athletic Director
Jessie Rosa said. "As exciting as it is for us to be a part of our student-athletes' journey during their time at AUM, our true excitement comes when they take the next step in their lives as well-educated, committed members of society. We congratulate them on all they have accomplished and cannot wait to see the impact they will make in their future endeavors."
Mr. Michael Briddell, the Director of Public Information and External Affairs for the City of Montgomery, will be the distinguished speaker at AUM's Spring 2019 commencement ceremonies.
Briddell, who joined the City of Montgomery in 2004, oversees media relations for the city, as well as its public library system, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the city's website and Capital City Connection, its cable channel. In 2010, when the Montgomery metro area tied for the nation's highest obesity rate in a survey, Mayor Todd Strange appointed Briddell to be the community's health and wellness "czar."
Before joining the City of Montgomery, Briddell spent two decades in broadcast journalism. His career included a five-year stint as the 5 p.m. anchor and a reporter for Montgomery's WSFA-TV. He developed the station's "Education Report," a nightly feature on education-related issues. He also worked in a variety of other broadcast markets, serving with TV stations in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma and Mississippi. Briddell graduates from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in communications media.
