Warhawks Take Two At Home From Erskine and Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Playing at home for the first time this season the Auburn Montgomery volleyball team defeated Erskine College and Huntingdon College in a tri-match at the AUM Gymnasium, earning 3-0 victories over both the Flying Fleet and the Hawks on Tuesday.
 
NOTES
- The Warhawks improve to 3-3 on the season with a 2-0 mark at home.
- Erskine (1-5) and Huntingdon (5-5) played a match at 2 p.m., with the Hawks earning a 3-2 victory.
- AUM won the match with the Flying Fleet 25-10, 25-10, 25-11.
- The Warhawks took the match with the Hawks 25-13, 25-12, 25-16.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Junior middle blocker Jaylyn Felder tallied 14 kills on the night, hitting .612 for the day.
- Freshman outside hitter Giada Pais-Marden also recorded 14 kills, adding eight digs and two service aces over two matches.
- Sophomore outside hitter Dariona Dash notched 14 kills on the day, with a career-best 10 kills against Huntingdon. Dash also collected eight digs in the two contests.
- Sophomore Isadora Nicolai directed the AUM offense to a pair of victories, notching 60 kills and 16 digs in the two matches.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Warhawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set before EC was able to force a side out. AUM then went on an 8-1 run to go up 15-3, capped off by a Skylar Coppinger service ace. The Fleet were able finally get their offense on track to put some points up, but the early damage by the Orange & Black was too much to overcome.
- AUM tallied eight straight points to start the second set, with Nicolai doing the service honors. The two teams then traded points back and forth before AUM went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-3 lead. After trading side outs over the course of the rest of the match, Maria Nicolau finished off the second set with a kill to put AUM up 2-0.
- Nyah Whittlesey opened the third set with 10 straight serves including a pair of aces to help AUM take a 10-0 lead in the frame. Erskine responded with a 5-3 run of their own before the Warhawks scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 23-7 lead. The Fleet would start a 4-1 run to try to get back into the contest, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Whittlesey would finish off the set with a kill to secure the set and win the match 3-0.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE (GAME ONE)
- AUM hit for a .358 average while Erskine recorded a -.053 mark.
- The Warhawks recorded a school record 12 service aces in the win.
- AUM tallied 40 kills to just 16 for the Flying Fleet.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- The opening frame had AUM running out to a 10-1 lead before HC was able to score a pair of points. The Warhawks then scored five in a row to go up 15-3 capped off by a Sommer Rhea kill. Huntingdon then scored five in a row to cut the lead to 15-8, but AUM would outscore the Hawks 10-5 the rest of the way and would win the frame on another Rhea Kill.
- The Hawks would open the second frame by taking a 3-1 lead before the Orange & Black tallied three in a row to go up 4-3. Huntingdon would retake the lead moments later before a kill from Pais-Marden prompted a 3-0 run by the Warhawks. Again the Hawks would answer with a pair of points to tie the set at 7-7, but a 10-1 run by the home team gave AUM an 18-8 advantage. The Warhawks would keep HC at bay the rest of the frame, earning the win on a Nicolai kill from her setter position.
- AUM jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set before an 8-4 run by Huntingdon tied the match at 11-11. The Warhawks then scored eight out of the next nine points to go up 19-12 on an Ariadne Borges kill from the middle. The two teams would trade side outs but the Hawks could not keep up with the Warhawks, who ended the contest with a Rhea kill.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE (GAME TWO)
- AUM recorded a hitting percentage of .398 while Huntingdon hit for a .050 mark.
- The Warhawks tallied 55 digs while the Hawks notched 38.
- AUM is now 2-0 lifetime against Huntingdon.
