Warhawks Head To USC Aiken Invitational This Weekend

The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team will head to Aiken, S.C. this weekend to take part in the 2019 USC Aiken Invitational hosted by the Pacers out of the Peach Belt Conference. AUM will take on Lander University and Barton College on Friday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, before finishing out the tournament on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. match against North Greenville University. The Warhawks were scheduled to play Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon but the Broncos pulled out of the tournament this past Tuesday.

About the Warhawks
AUM are now 3-3 on the season having gone 1-3 at the Miner Invitational last weekend followed by a pair of 3-0 victories against Erskine College and Huntingdon College on Tuesday evening. The volleyball team became the first program in school history to win a contest as full members of NCAA Division II on Saturday, Sept. 7, with a 3-2 victory over Arkansas Tech.
 
Senior outside hitter Sommer Rhea currently leads the team in kills with 54 and is tied for second on the team in service aces with six. Rhea is also second on the team in digs with 61. Freshman outside hitter Giada Pais-Marden is second on the team in kills with 42 and tied for third in blocks with 5.0.
 
Senior middle blocker Ariadne Borges leads the team and is second in the Gulf South Conference in blocks with 20.0 (nine solo). Sophomore setter Isadora Nicolai tops the squad and is fourth in the GSC in assists with a total of 180 over six matches. Nicolai also leads the team in aces with nine.
 
Junior libero Carla Butler leads the team and is fifth in the GSC in digs with 81. The Christchurch, New Zealand native is averaging 4.05 digs per set over the first six matches of 2019.

The tournament will mark the first meeting for the Warhawks with all three of their opponents.
