ROLLA, Mo. – Senior middle blocker
Ariadne Borges set the school record for total blocks and solo blocks against the University of Arkansas at Monticello but the Boll Weevils were able to pull out a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Auburn Montgomery volleyball team on Friday afternoon at the Miner Invitational.
NOTES
- The Warhawks won the first set 25-21 before falling 29-27, 25-21 and 25-22.
- AUM is now 0-2 on the year with a 0-1 mark at neutral sites.
- UAM improves to 1-0 on the season.
- The match for the Boll Weevils was their first of the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Borges tallied nine total blocks in the contest with five solo blocks to her credit. She breaks former Warhawk
Brianna Garvin's mark of eight total blocks set on multiple occasions and Garvin's solo block record of four recorded against Valdosta State last season. Borges also seven kills and an ace.
- Senior outside hitter
Sommer Rhea tallied 16 kills, 13 digs and three service aces on the day. Rhea's 16 kills were one away from her career best.
- Sophomore setter
Isadora Nicolai tallied a season-high 33 assists and 11 digs.
QUOTING THE COACH
"We are lacking aggressiveness on offense and defense as a team," said Siqueira. "We cannot rely only on a couple of players to score. We need all players to be ready to compete and score at all times."
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- UAM hit for a .164 clip as a team while AUM recorded a .096 hitting percentage.
- The Boll Weevils tallied 48 kills while the Warhawks notched 43.
- UAM recorded 10 services aces while the Orange & Black notched seven.
