MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Senior guard
Darrion Taylor scored an Auburn Montgomery division-II era record 42 points, while leading the men's basketball team to a season-high 99 points in their 99-90 Gulf South Conference win over Shorter University on Sunday, Jan. 12 from the AUM Gymnasium.
NOTEWORTHY
- With the win, AUM improves to 7-9 overall, and 2-6 in GSC play.
- The victory over Shorter marks for the Warhawks fourth straight over the Hawks, and improves their all-time advantage to 25-4.
- D. Taylor's 42 points was just three away from the all-time single-game point record at AUM, set by Albert Lewis (45) against William Carey during the 1994-95 season.
- D. Taylor's 13 field goals made marks for the most in a game by an AUM men's basketball player since Joseph Manuel converted 14 against Berry College on Jan. 24 of the 2004-05 season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- D. Taylor's 42-point night marked for the first 40-point performance by an AUM men's basketball player since Torey Harris scored 42 points against Brevard College on Nov. 9 of the 2002-03 season. Taylor went 8-12 on threes, a perfect 8-8 on free throws and dished out four assists.

Stanley Davis finished with 17 points, going 4-8 on threes in the win.

Maharrith Jackson logged eight points and a team-high four boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks outscored Shorter 10-5 over the first four and half minutes, with a fast-break layup by Bell putting AUM up by five at the 16:30 mark.
- The Hawks would battle back to make it a 17-17 game at the 13:13 mark, but AUM would answer with a quick 6-0 run courtesy of threes by Davis and D. Taylor to lead 23-17 with 12:25 left in the half.
- The Warhawks would continue to trade baskets with Shorter for the remainder of the half, with AUM leading by as many as six points six more times, seven points twice and their largest lead of the half at eight points (46-38) with 2:37 to go.
- The Hawks would close out the first half hot, however, using an 11-2 scoring run and a successful full-court heave at the buzzer to lead 49-48 at the break.
- Both teams struggled out of the gate to begin the second half, with the score reading 55-all the 16:38 mark.
- The Hawks took the lead in the second half at the 16:33 mark by a margin of 57-55, and would not surrender it back to AUM until the 4:41 mark, with four tied scores sprinkled in. Shorter led by as much as six (70-64) during that period, which came with 13:07 left.
- The Warhawks kept battling to erase their deficit, with tied scores coming at the 10:11 mark (73-73), the 7:15 mark (75-75) the 6:31 mark (78-78) and the 5:50 mark (81-81).
- AUM would finally break through and take the lead with 5:14 left, on a driving layup from J. Taylor.
- Both teams would keep trading leads and tied scores over the next two minutes, with the score eventually reading 88-all with 3:28 to play.
- The Warhawks would finish out the game strong over the final three and a half minutes, going 3-5 on field goals and sinking five free throws to help ice the game.
- Bell would put the Warhawks up for good at 90-88 with a driving layup at the 2:37 mark, and would later convert an old-fashioned three-point play to put the Warhawks up 93-89 with 1:33 to play.
- AUM would get crucial stops on defense over Shorter's next few possessions, partnered with four free throws by D. Taylor to seal the 99-90 win.

- The Warhawks took a season-high 72 shots in the game, while converting on 36 of them to finish at 50 percent from the floor.
- AUM also shot an even 50 percent from downtown, knocking down 12 of 24 three-point shots.
