Men’s Hoops Travels to Union Thursday, Hosts Shorter Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team will play a pair of Gulf South Conference games this week, traveling to Union University on Thursday, Jan. 9 and hosting Shorter University in Saturday, Jan. 11.

ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM (6-8, 1-5 GSC) heads into their upcoming slate of contests looking to stop a four-game losing skid. The Warhawks' last two setbacks have been by a combined five points, including a 75-72 overtime loss at Montevallo on Saturday, Jan. 4 their last time out.
 
As a team, the Warhawk are averaging 75.9 points per contest, and allowing opponents to score 77.5. Darrion Taylor (13.8 PPG) and Carlos Bell (13.4 PPG) both rank among the top-20 scorers in the GSC, while Stanley Davis (11.6 PPG) and Maharrith Jackson (10.7 PPG) are both also averaging in double figures for AUM.
 
D. Taylor currently possesses the third-best assist/turnover ratio in the Gulf South Conference at 2.5, while his 50 assists rank seventh and his 3.6 assists per game rank eighth. The senior guard also sits eight in the conference in overall field goal percentage, coming into the week with a 51 percent field-goal efficiency.
 
Davis continues to pace the Gulf South in three-point shooting, shooting a league-high 45 percent on three this season. The junior guard's 36 treys made this season find him ranked third in the conference. 
 
The Orange and Black currently rank fifth in the conference in rebounds, with a 36.9 rebounds-per-game rate. Jackson (6.4 RPG) and Aaron Reddick (6.0) both rank among the top-20 in rebounding in the league, with Jackson leading the Warhawks. 
 
The Warhawks hold an all-time advantage of 24-4 over Shorter, including wins in their last three meeting with the Hawks. AUM's all-time record with Union sits at 1-6, while the Warhawks will look to avenge an 87-75 loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season on Dec. 16 in Montgomery.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Union University comes into their contest with AUM having dropped their last two games, including a 76-72 loss at Lee University in their most recent matchup on Jan. 4
 
On offense, the Bulldogs are averaging 76.2 points per game, and shooting 45 percent from the floor, both marks that rank fourth in the GSC. Tyree Boykin leads the Union attack, and ranks third in the conference, with a 19.2 points-per-game scoring average.
 
Union leads the league with 157 three-pointers made, with an average of 11.2 threes per game. The Bulldogs ranks third in the conference with a 36.3 percent three-point efficiency.
 
Lidonta Hicks-Gentry's 7.9 rebounds per game paces Union and ranks for sixth among all-GSC players. The Bulldogs as a team are currently averaging 36.5 boards per contest.
 
ABOUT THE HAWKS
Shorter University has dropped their last four contests, including a 79-69 setback at Mississippi College on Jan. 4 their last time out.
 
Ja'Cori Wilson (15.7 PPG) and Bryan Polanco (15.2 PPG) pace a Hawk's offense averaging 75.9 points per game. Jay Shropshire (13.2 PPG) is also averaging double-digit points for Shorter. 
 
Polanco leads the team with a 7.6 rebounds per game average, while the Hawks as a team are averaging 36.2 boards per game.
 
Prior to the meeting with AUM, Shorter will host Alabama-Huntsville in GSC action on Thursday, Jan. 9.
