Men’s Basketball Completes Season Sweep of Lee with 80-73 Road Win

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team completed their season sweep of Lee University by picking up an 80-73 road win in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday, Feb. 15. 
 
The Warhawks have now won their last three games, and hold a record of 13-11 overall and 8-8 in GSC action.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Maharrith Jackson logged a game-high 24 points in the win while grabbing six boards. 
- Carlos Bell scored 15 points, in addition to hauling in a team-best eight rebounds. The senior guard/forward has now scored in double figures in his last 12 games. 
- Darrion Taylor and Stanley Davis both tallied 14 points, with D. Taylor dishing out a team-best three assists and going 4-6 from the three-point line. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
-An even-keeled first half saw the score read 13-13 with 14:17 to go before halftime. 
- With the score sitting tied at 18-all with 10:08 in first, the Warhawks would go on a quick 7-2 run to take a 25-20 lead after a fast-break layup from Davis at the 8:07 mark.
- Lee would battle back to make it a 27-25 game and would go up 32-31 over AUM before a 9-2 run put the Warhawks up 40-34 with 1:49 to go until the break. Lee got a quick five points over the final minute to cut AUM's lead to 40-39 at halftime.
- AUM jumped out to a five-point lead after a Jackson layup made it 44-39 with 18:15 left, but the Flames would rebuttal quickly to tie it back up at 45-45 with 16:56 to play.
- With the score at 48-47 with 14:41 to go, the Warhawks would create some space between themselves and the Flames with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to lead 59-49 with 10:34 to play.
- The Warhawk's lead would waffle between single-digit and double-digit points over the next few minutes, taking their largest lead with 5:10 to go at 73-60.
- Lee did not back down, however, cutting into the Warhawk's advantage slowly but surely with an 11-4 run to make it a 77-71 game with 2:21 left. 
- The Warhawks held strong defensively though and hit some key free throws late to give way to the 80-73 final.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- AUM shot 39 percent in both the first and second halves of the game, finishing 25-64 from the floor. 
- The Warhawks shot a season-best 58 percent (11-19) from the three-point line in the game, going 6-11 in the first half and 5-8 in the second.
- The Orange and Black shot the free throw well all night, going 19-23 (82.6%) from the charity stripe.
- AUM won the rebounding battle, 40-37. 
- The Warhawks scored 28 points in the paint, 22 points off the bench and 18 points off of Flame turnovers. 
 
UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will return home for a Thursday, Feb. 20 contest with Christian Brothers University at 8:00 p.m.
