Newcomers Shine In Game One, Softball Splits Doubleheader With Valdosta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The newcomers for the Auburn University at Montgomery softball team propelled the Warhawks to a 5-3 win over Gulf South Conference foe Valdosta State in game one, but the team fell 7-1 in game two.

NOTES
- AUM finishes the day at 8-3 with a 3-2 GSC record.
- New players drove in four runs for the Warhawks in the win.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 1
- Alanna Goble spun a complete game, allowing two hits while striking out six.
- Lauren Haskins launched her first-career home run.
- Olivia Aycock and Allie Miller tallied multi-hit games.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- The Warhawks had chances in both the first and second inning to break through on the scoreboard, however in both occasions, AUM stranded runners on second and third to keep the game at 0-0.
- With Aycock at second base, Jaycie Walker stepped to the plate Kirk Gibson style and laced a ball into the left field corner to score Aycock from second base giving the Orange & Black a 1-0 lead.
- Abby Krueger lifted what looked to be a routine popup behind the first base bag, but the Lady Blazers' second basemen dropped the ball in the infield, allowing pinch runner Tatiana Ervin to score from second.
- In the fourth inning and the Warhawks leading 2-0, Haskins stepped up and launched a towering solo home run to notch her first-collegiate big fly.
- Molly Cobb continued her hot start to the season with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Parker Pinholster. Miller continued the scoring in the fifth inning, lacing a ball through the right side of the infield that scored Morgan Duschell to give the Warhawks a 5-0 lead at the time.
- Valdosta State made sure to get some runs on the board as Lacey Crandall sent a ball over the left field wall with two runners on to make the game close at 5-3 in the sixth.
- Goble went into lockdown mode in the sixth and seventh inning after the home run, securing the Warhawks' eighth win of the season.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME 1
- Goble notched six strikeouts while Valdosta State netted two.
- The Lady Blazers were given five free passes while AUM drew four walks.
- The Orange & Black left five runners on, while VSU left four on.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 2
- Kendall Tucker registered the only RBI for AUM.
- Cydney Sizemore went three scoreless innings in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Similar to game one, the Warhawks had an opportunity to score in the first inning but were unsuccessful. The consequence, however, was a Valdosta State home run over the left field fence to put the visitors up 1-0.
- The strike zone began to shrink on starting pitcher Chanel Newcomer as Valdosta State was able to gain a bases-loaded walk to score the second run of the game in the fourth. Bailie Barnes was sent in to put out the fire in the fourth, but hit her first batter, allowing another run to cross.
- Valdosta State's next batter was Logan Hill, who took a pitch from Barnes and smacked it over the center fielder Miller to connect on a grand slam, giving the Lady Blazers a 7-0 lead over the Orange & Black.
- Tucker was able to leg out an infield single with two outs in the seventh that scored Miller from second base, but the rally was eventually cut short and the Warhawks dropped the second game of the doubleheader.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME 2
- AUM struck out 11 times in the loss, while VSU was set down on strikes twice.
- The Warhawks drew seven walks, while limiting VSU to four free passes.
- The Orange & Black left 12 runners on base while the Lady Blazers left seven on.
