Warhawks Use 23 Runs To Take Conference Series Over Falcons

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery used an offensive explosion to sweep the doubleheader and to take two of three against Gulf South Conference rival Montevallo on Saturday afternoon 16-8 and 7-0.

NOTES
- AUM moves to 12-5 in 2020 with a 5-4 conference mark.
- Montevallo falls to 10-8 with a 5-4 record in GSC action.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 1
- Kendall Tucker launched a grand slam.
- Allie Miller went 2-3 with a double and a stolen base.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- The Warhawks erupted right out of the gate for seven runs in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Tucker reached on an error from the third basemen, allowing Miller to score from third. The next batter, Gracie Harris, drew a bases-loaded walk to score Lauren Haskins.   
- Abby Krueger jumped in on the fun with a two-run single to extend the Orange & Black lead to 4-0. Jaycie Walker was able to beat out a fielder's choice to score another run for AUM, allowing Molly Cobb to bring home Krueger with a sac fly on the next at bat.       
- The second inning was capped by a Miller RBI single, scoring Olivia Aycock and giving the Warhawks a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.   
- The second inning also featured offense from Montevallo as the Falcons were able to hang a six spot on AUM. Two runs were scored from the Falcons before an error by Haskins prolonged the inning with two outs.
- A two-run single up the middle and a two-run home run chased the Warhawk starting pitcher Bailie Barnes after 1.2 innings of work.
- Scoring picked back up for the Orange & Black two innings later when Morgan Duschell was able to gain an RBI walk to extend the AUM lead to 8-6. Tucker, the next batter, destroyed a ball that went over the right field wall to score four runs and give AUM a 12-6 lead.
- The Warhawks got their eight-run lead when Duschell scored off an error on the infield to give AUM their eventual 16-8 win.  

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME 1
- The Warhawks needed just two extra base hits to beat the Falcons.
- Cydney Sizemore and Chanel Newcomer combined to throw 4.2 innings of two-hit ball.
- Both teams left three runners on base.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 2
- Cobb smacked her fifth home run of the season.
- Alanna Goble spun a two-hit shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- AUM wasted no time in getting on the board first in game two of the doubleheader as Cobb came up to the plate with a runner on and smoked a ball over the right field wall to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead right off the hop.   
- Freshman Maddie Parks joined in on the offensive fun for the day, roping a hard-hit grounder to the shortstop, allowing Miller to score from third giving the Orange & Black a 3-0 lead.          
- In the fourth inning with the Warhawks up three, Krueger laid down a safety squeeze play that scored Duschell from third. The junior was also able to score from third in the sixth inning that gave AUM a 5-0 lead.    
- The sixth inning continued with Krueger once again executing a flawless bunt play, scoring Haskins from third base to allow AUM a 6-0 lead.
- The scoring in the seventh inning started and ended with a two-out RBI double from Tucker to give Goble and the Warhawks all they needed to take the series from the rival Falcons.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME 2
- Goble netted nine strikeouts in the contest.
- Both teams drew two walks.
- AUM left five runners on, while Montevallo left three runners on base.

"We are happy with the series win no doubt. Montevallo played us really tough the whole weekend and there were a lot of ups and downs. We are proud of the resiliency and perseverance shown by our girls."

UP NEXT
The Warhawks will welcome SIAC foe Miles to the AUM Softball Complex on Wednesday, March 4. The doubleheader with Miles is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
