ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
AUM posted a regular-season record of 15-13 in 2019-20 and a mark of 10-10 in GSC play to earn the Warhawks the number-seven seed in the tournament in just their first season of full-fledged membership in NCAA Division II.
The Warhawks averaged 78.4 points per game in the regular season, good enough for second in the conference.
Carlos Bell led the Warhawks and ranked 11th in the GSC with a 15 points-per-game scoring average, while
Maharrith Jackson (13.8 PPG),
Darrion Taylor (12.9 PPG) and
Stanley Davis (11 PPG) all also averaged double-digit points for AUM.
The Orange and Black finished second in the regular season in three-point percentage, shooting 36.2 percent from beyond the arc on the year. D. Taylor led all GSC players with a 45-percent three-point efficiency, while Davis shot 39 percent on threes for sixth-best in the conference.
The Warhawks also posted the third-best rebounding average in the Gulf South at 37.4 boards per game.
Aaron Reddick (6.6 RPG), Jackson (6.4 RPG) and Bell (6.3 RPG) all ranked within the top 20 in the conference in rebounding in the regular season.
AUM additionally ranked second in the conference in free-throw percentage, shooting 75 percent from the charity stripe on the season.
The Warhawks bested Lee University in both meetings in 2019-20. AUM used a buzzer-beater layup by
Jeremiah Bozeman to knock off the Flames 73-71 in their first contest on Nov. 23 in Montgomery and topped Lee 80-73 in Cleveland in their most recent matchup on Feb. 15.
ABOUT THE FLAMES
Lee lost just four games in conference play in 2019-20, earning them the number-two seed in the tournament. The Flames fell 81-69 in their final regular-season contest at Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 29.
The Flames averaged 76.1 points per game in 2019-20 while posting the second-best field goal efficiency in the conference at 48 percent. Ryan Montgomery's 18.1 points per game ranked second-best in the GSC in the regular season, while Quay Kennedy ranked 15th in the conference at 14.1 points per game.
The Flame defense proved to be one of the stingiest in the conference, allowing just 69.1 points per game and holding opponents to just 41 percent from the floor and 31 percent on threes. Montgomery additionally led Lee in the regular season with a 5.9 rebounds-per-game rate.
