Volleyball Comes Back From Down 2-0 to Take Five-Set Thriller Over West Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team rallied from down 2-0 to pull off a 3-2 comeback win over the West Alabama Tigers on Friday, Oct. 1 in their home opener.
 
The win improves AUM's record to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in GSC play.
 
Four different Warhawks' tallied double-digit kills, led by Carla Butler's season-high 14. Butler registered her fourth double-double of the season by adding 10 digs. 
 
Giada Pais-Marden(12), Maria Nicolau(11), and Keren Santana (11) all each tallied double-digit kills in the contest. Isadora Nicolai (30) and Amber Bretwisch (22) led AUM in assists while Reann Cato notched a team-high 18 digs on the night. 
 
Three different Warhawks' added four or more block assists, with Nicolau leading the way with five. Pais-Marden and Kyla Ffrench each totaled four block assists each. 
 
West Alabama opened up set one by going on an 11-4 run, followed by a 7-1 run by the Warhawks to make it just a 12-11 contest. UWA would respond, however, with a 9-3 run to go up 21-14 and pave the way for a set-one win.
 
Both teams battled back-and-fourth over set two. The turning point came with the score reading 21-20 in UWA's favor as the Tigers would go on to score four of the set's final five points to come out on top 25-21.
 
The Warhawks saw there hitting percentage jump to .347 in set three, converting on 12 of 28 attacks. AUM led by as many as 14 before cruising to a 25-12 win.
 
AUM kept applying the pressure and hit .520 (16-25) and .529 (10-17) over sets four and five while committing just four errors. The Warhawks led by double-digits in set four and jumped out to a 12-4 led in set five to help seal the match. 
 
Despite the slow start, AUM posted a hitting percentage of .304 (63-138) on the night. The Warhawks matched a season-high with 10 blocks and posted their third-highest assist total of the season at 60.
 
The volleyball team will face a quick turnaround, as they return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 against Mississippi College. First serve from the AUM Gymnasium is set for 2:00 p.m.
