Offensive Outpouring Leads Men’s Soccer to 6-0 Win at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – Backed by the most goals scored in a match in the Matthew Thorne era, the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team picked up their fourth-straight victory with a 6-0 rout at Shorter University on Friday, Oct. 22.

With the win, AUM's record improves to 9-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in GSC play. The Warhawks' six goals scored marks for their highest total since a 10-2 victory over LSU-Alexandria on Aug. 28 of the 2015 season.

The Warhawks set the tone early, with a pair of goals from Andrew Elkins in the match's first minute and a 16th-minute strike from Franck Kouentchi to give them a 2-0 advantage at the break. Landon Surratt helped set up Elkin's goal for his team-high fourth assist of the season.

AUM kept their foot on the gas in the second half, beginning with Jamos Hauk's score in minute 60 to make it 3-0.

Juan del Castillo picked up his brace with goals in both the 68th and 71st minutes. Elijah Saint-Marc helped set up del Castillo's second score that made it 4-0.

Darius Rashid delivered the game's final blow in minute number 84 to give AUM a 6-0 advantage.

AUM's 25 shots taken on the evening marked for the second-most in a game this season while their 17 shots on goal accounted for a season-high. The Warhawks also matched a season-high with 11 corner kicks taken.

In goal, Alexander Kraus picked up his GSC-leading sixth shutout of the year while improving his 2021 record to 9-2-1. The senior keeper totaled three saves in the victory.

"Tonight was another professional performance from the lads," Coach Thorne said. "We were fortunate enough to score early and kept our intensity throughout."

The men's soccer team will see a week-long hiatus before returning to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 29 at Christian Brothers University. Kickoff from Memphis, Tenn. is set for 5:00 p.m.
