HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team dropped its Saturday, Oct. 9 Gulf South Conference contest at Alabama Huntsville 3-0.
With the loss, AUM's record falls to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in GSC play.
Amber Bretwisch recorded a team-high 15 assists on the day while finishing just one dig shy of a double-double at nine.
Isadora Nicolai totaled 12 assists and six digs while
Reann Cato tallied a team-high 12 digs.
Carla Butler accounted for four of the Warhawks' eight services aces on the day, in addition to notching six kills and five digs.
Nyah Whittlesey posted a team-best eight kills while
Ylenia De Mango registered a team-high three block assists.
AUM jumped out to a 6-2 lead in set one, but would see UAH charge back and create a back-and-forth set that saw the score reach a 20-20 tie. The Chargers went on to score five of the final seven points in set one to take it 25-22.
The Warhawks suffered another heartbreaking setback in set two after battling back from down five to take a 16-15 lead. AUM got to set point at 24-23 but went on to concede the set's final three points to UAH.
The Chargers scored the first five points of set three and did not look back. The Warhawks cut their deficit to just 17-14, but UAH would go on to rattle off an 8-2 run to finish out set three and claim the match.
AUM was outhit by UAH in the contest, .330 to .150. The Warhawks got their best offensive effort in set two, posting a .212 hitting percentage.
The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when they host Montevallo for "Make-A-Wish-Donation Day," where the department will be taking up donations for its 2021-22 Make-A-Wish campaign. First serve from the AUM Gymnasium is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST).
