TAMPA, Fla. – Senior
Nathaniel Grant booted in the golden goal in the 110th minute to give the Auburn Montgomery Men's Soccer Team a 1-0 win over #9 Tampa and advance to the Sweet 16 Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 21.
Grant's goal came with 13 seconds left in the second overtime period and was set up by a phenomenal run by senior defender
Luke Wheeldon, who was credited with the assist. Wheeldon took possession of the ball behind midfield and traveled all the way into the box to cross it in for Grant's scoring opportunity.
"Luke made an amazing run down the middle," Grant said. "I was ready for a potential opportunity to take a shot once I saw him moving that way. He put a great cross in, and I was able to finish."
The win improves the Warhawks' record to 11-3-4 on the season and marks for the first NCAA postseason victory in program history since making the transition to NCAA Divison II.
