MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team dropped it's first home Gulf South Conference contest of the 2021-22 season 76-67 to the Statesmen of Delta State University on Sunday, Dec. 12, bringing the Warhawks' record to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in GSC action.
Stanley Davis lead a trio of Warhawks that scored in double figures with 22 points. The senior guard knocked down six of sixteen three-pointers and also tallied seven rebounds on the night.
James Graham accounted for a career-high 19 points on a 9-15 shooting night with three blocked shots.
Isaiah Hart logged 10 points and a game-high four assists while
Jeremiah Bozeman pulled down a team-best 9 rebounds with six points scored and four steals.
Both teams tallied seven points over the first three and a half minutes, with Graham accounting for all seven for AUM, as the score read 7-7 at the 16:30 mark.
The Statesmen would go on to sink their next four shots as part of a 10-4 run to take a 17-11 lead at the 11:06 mark, but AUM would battle back with a quick 6-2 run to trail just 19-17 at the 8:55 mark.
A 7-2 run by the Statesmen over the next 2:09 put them on top 26-19 at the 6:11 mark, followed by a lull in offense for the remainder of the first half with both teams putting up just 13 combined points, to see a 33-25 halftime score in favor of DSU.
Delta State knocked down five of its first seven shots to begin the second half as part of a 16-6 run that put them up 49-31 over AUM at the 14:58 mark. AUM went on to score the next eight points unanswered to make it 49-39, but the Statesmen picked back up the pace over the next five minutes with a 16-10 run to go up 65-47 with 6:57 left to play.
AUM scored 18 points over the final five minutes, with 14 of those points coming from Davis, but the Statesmen kept their foot on the gas to put up 14 points on a 6-9 shooting performance down the stretch to give way to the 78-67 final.
AUM bolstered its field-goal efficiency from 30 percent (11-36) in the first half to 45 percent (16-15) in the second half to finish the game at 38 percent shooting (27-71). The Warhawks accounted for 32 bench points, 26 points in the paint, 15 second-chance points, and 14 points off turnovers.
The men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 18 with a GSC road battle at West Florida at 4:00 p.m. (CST).
