Jackson’s 20-20 Leads Men’s Basketball to 74-65 Win over West Florida

MONTGOMERY, Ala.— Senior forward Maharrith Jackson tallied a season-high 26 points and career-best 20 rebounds while leading the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team to a 74-65 Gulf South Conference victory over the West Florida Argonauts on Friday, Feb. 19.

With the win, AUM improves to 3-9 on the year, while West Florida falls to 5-10.

Jackson's 20 rebounds marks for the most in a game by an AUM player since Jarrett Croff's 23-rebound performance in the Warhawks' 85-83 win at Mississippi College on Feb. 1, 2018. Jackson's 20 boards paved the way for AUM to out-rebound the Argos 50-27 on the night.

Jackson finished 10-20 from the floor, while matching a career-high with five three-pointers. The Moscow, Tenn. native also dished out four assists.

Sam Youngblood knocked down a career-high five three-point shots in the game, while going 6-14 from the floor and finishing with 18 points.

Stanley Davis went for 11 points and five assists while Jeremiah Bozeman added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

West Florida opened up the game by knocking down seven of their first eight shots to take a 15-0 lead over AUM at the 14:19 mark.

The Warhawks would come storming back over the next five minutes with a 19-4 run to even the game at 19-all at the 7:13 mark. Jackson (9) and Youngblood (6) combined for 15 for AUM over that stretch in which the Warhawks shot 7-11 from the field and four of six from three.

AUM went on to outscore the Argos 16-12 for the remainder of the half, with nine coming from Youngblood, to lead 35-31 at the break.

West Florida outscored AUM 13-8 over the first seven minutes to take a 44-43 lead at the 12:26 mark.

A Davis three at the 11:58 mark put AUM back on top, however, and sparked a 25-13 scoring run over the next 11 minutes. The Warhawks shot 8-14 over the run, including 4-6 from three, to go up 68-57 with 1:19 to go.

The Warhawks were able to ice the contest by using free throws to outscore UWF 8-6 over the final minute and clinch the victory.

"Just enjoy the moment," Jackson said about his performance on the night. "You only get to play basketball once, so you might as well go out and give it your all. That's what I felt like I gave to my teammates tonight."

AUM sank a season-high 13 three-point shots, finishing at 45 percent from downtown on the evening. The Warhawks held the Argos to just a 28 percent (7-25) clip from three in the game.

AUM finished the night at 43 percent (24-55) on all field goals while holding UWF to 40 percent (25-62).

The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a rematch with the Argos at 2:00 p.m. from the AUM Gymnasium.
