CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team fell 93-56 to West Georgia just one day after dropping a home contest to the Wolves in Montgomery on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
With the loss, AUM's record falls to 3-12 on the year and West Georgia improves to 12-6.
Sam Youngblood led AUM with 14 points on the night. The freshman guard knocked down six of 12 field goals, including two of five threes.
Jalen Taylor and
Ryan Sanders both tallied nine points, while
Deven Tucker recorded eight points and seven rebounds.
UWG led AUM 12-10 at the 14:32 mark in the first and would then proceed to go on a 20-5 run over the next seven minutes to lead 32-15 at the 7:36 mark. UWG knocked down eight of 10 shots during that time period, while AUM sank just two of ten.
AUM would get things going offensively for the remaining portion of the first, but could not stop the UWG attack. The Warhawks edged the Wolves in scoring 20-18 in the final seven minutes of the first to see a halftime score of 52-33.
UWG opened up the second half with a 17-3 run over the first six minutes to extend their lead to 69-38 at the 13:16 mark. UWG outscored AUM 25-18 the rest of the way to give way to the 93-56 final.
Three-point shots proved to be pivotal in the contest, with AUM sinking just three of 11 and UWG knocking down nine of 21. The Wolves also earned their stripes at the free throw line, knocking down 20 of 25 and holding AUM to just 7-14.
The Warhawks finished the game shooting 45 percent (23-51) on all field goals while UWG shot 51 percent (32-62) from the floor.
Men's basketball will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 26 at Lee University. Tip-off from Cleveland, Tenn. is set for 5:00 p.m. (CST).
