Davis Goes for 36 Points in Men’s Hoops Heart-Breaking Season-Finale Setback to Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Senior guard Stanley Davis tallied a career-best 36 points for the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team in their season finale on Saturday, Feb. 27 against Lee University, but it would not be enough as the Warhawks fell 77-76 to the Flames in dramatic fashion.

With the loss AUM closes out 2020-21 with a record of 3-14.

Davis's 36 points marked for the most in a game by a Warhawk since Darrion Taylor's 42-point performance in a 99-90 win over Shorter on Jan. 12 of the 2019-20 season.

The senior guard knocked down 12 of 17 field goals, including eight of ten three-pointers while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Maharrith Jackson logged 14 points, to go along with seven rebounds.

Both teams scored eight points over the first three minutes, with the Warhawks outscoring the Flames 13-7 over the next four minutes and change to go up 21-15 at the 11:50 mark in the first.

From there, the Warhawks would knock down five of their next seven shots, including four of four threes, to go up 38-23 at the 6:03 mark. The Flames outscored AUM 10-4 over the final five minutes of the half to see a halftime score of 42-33 in favor of the Warhawks.

Lee would knock down five of their first eight shots to being half number two and outscore AUM 14-7 to trail the Warhawks just 49-47 with 14:56 to play.

The Warhawks and Flames would battle back-and-forth over the next eight minutes, with Lee eventually taking a 61-59 lead over AUM at the 6:33 mark on the back of a 14-10 run.

Both teams traded leads over the next several minutes, with the Warhawks going up 75-71 with 1:45 to play.

The Flames sank a pair of key threes in the final minute, with the go-ahead trey coming with 12 seconds to go. The Warhawks would get one final look at the buzzer, but Jackson's fade-away three as time expired fell short.

The Warhawks shot a season-best 58 percent (10-17) from three on the day while finishing 51 percent (23-45)  on all field goals and 74 percent from the free throw line (20-27).

The Warhawks took advantage of 19 points off of Flame turnovers in the game.

Saturday's contest featured five lead changes and four tied scores.
