Softball Uses 15 Runs to Slay Saints In Doubleheader

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team used stellar pitching performances from Alanna Goble and Bailie Barnes and 15 runs from their offense to sweep Flagler on the road on Monday afternoon.

The Warhawks have now started the season 9-0 and have won 16 consecutive games dating back to the 2020 season. Flagler falls to under .500 this year with a 5-6 record in 2021.

In game one, Goble was able to go the distance for her fourth win of the season. She spun a complete game two-hit shutout while striking out four batters.

Offensively, the Warhawks were led by Allie Miller, Molly Cobb and Gia Martin who were all able to produce two-hit games. Miller was also able to stand out on the bases again in this game, stealing three bags.

The offense was stifled in the first inning, but AUM was able to rebound with some clutch base hits in the top of the second. With two runners on, Miller was able to lace a single through the right side of the infield, scoring two runs, while her infield partner, Olivia Aycock, was able to do the same thing immediately after.

With a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth, Martin was able to smack a double to right-center field to score Kathryn Fallen and kept the AUM offense rolling against the Flagler pitching staff.

Goble kept the Saint's offense at a minimum in this non-conference contest, holding Flagler to just two hits throughout the afternoon to give AUM their second-straight shutout outing of the season.

Game two was highlighted once again by the AUM offense as 16 different players registered a plate appearance in the second game of the doubleheader. Senior catcher Abby Krueger, along with Cobb, was able to net a two-hit outing against Flagler.

Barnes was spectacular once again in the circle for the Orange & Black, spinning four innings of shutout ball while striking out three and allowing five hits.

The Warhawks needed just one inning in game two to do the entirety of their scoring. AUM scored all 10 runs in the third inning to put the game away early.

The scoring kicked off with an RBI double off the left-field wall from Krueger that scored Miller from first. A few batters later, Cobb was able to drive home Krueger with an RBI single to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.

After Peri Clark scored on a wild pitch, Kendall Tucker was able to rope a single down the left-field line, scoring Fallen and Jaycie Walker to give AUM a 5-0 lead.

After an RBI bunt that scored Martin to give the Warhawks a 6-0 lead, Miller was able to reach on a fielder's choice that scored Tucker from third.

AUM's scoring concluded for the day in the later stages of the third inning, with another RBI single from Krueger and an RBI double from Fallen to give AUM a 10-0 lead.

Flagler was able to score an unearned run off AUM hurler Brinkley Yevak in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be all the offense Flagler could produce as the Warhawks took the game 10-1.

The Warhawks will remain on the road and will finish their five-game road trip with a Gulf South Conference clash with Union University. The action from Jackson, Tenn., will begin on Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m.
