Wolves Spoil Warhawks’ Senior Day With 2-0 Win In Regular Season Finale

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After honoring seniors Torai Slaughter, Allison McCrimon and Alison Brewer, the Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia on Friday night.

The Warhawks finish their GSC Spring Championship Group B play with a 1-4 record, while the win for West Georgia puts them at 3-3 heading into the first round.

The Warhawks, despite the loss, still managed to outshoot the Wolves 12-10 in the match. Anila Mantello led the way for AUM in the shot category, with five, including one shot on goal. Julia Pack had a team-high two shots on goal in the loss.

The first 15 minutes of action saw both teams get high-quality scoring chances. In the sixth minute of action, West Georgia's Cassidi Thomas hit the crossbar, while seven minutes later, AUM's Mantello did the same thing.

West Georgia broke into the score column moments after Mantello's shot rang the crossbar. The Wolves were awarded a corner kick that Ryelyn Wells slotted past the Warhawk keeper to give her squad a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

AUM was unable to record a shot after the West Georgia goal, while AUM's Rebecca Jameison kept the Warhawks close with saves to end the first half.

The Warhawks came out swinging to begin the second half in an attempt to even the score. Milian Mollison rang a shot off the left post in the 47th minute of play, while six minutes later, Pack slotted a shot that missed the net to the left.

Mayson Jaindl got the Warhawks' first shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the West Georgia keeper was equal to the task in preventing an AUM goal.

With the Warhawks pushing for a goal, West Georgia was able to take advantage of a pressing AUM team to put the game on ice with a late goal in the 90th minute to secure their 2-0 win.

The Warhawks will await their opponent for the first round of the Spring Championship Series. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, March 17.
